WHO IS OPRAH?
Oprah Winfrey is an
American television
personality, actress, and
entrepreneur whose
syndicated daily talk show,
The Oprah Winfrey Show,
was among the most
popular of the genre. She
became one of the richest
and most influential women
in the United States.
HER EARLY
LIFE
Oprah was born in
January 29, 1954 in
Kosciusko, Mississipi. She
lived with her abusive
grandmother until she
was 6 years old.
Then, because of her poor
family, she had to move
across to the country a
lot.
HER EARLY LIFE
Once she was living with her relatives,
she had a traumatizing experience. She
was SA’d by her own relatives and some
friend of theirs.
She gave birth to a baby at 14. The baby
was born prematurely and he died
eventually. Even though that sounds bad
she was relieved that she didn’t have to
look after for a baby at that young age.
HER EDUCATION

She was supported by

her father for her education. She
was an honors student, was voted Most
Popular Girl and was very active in curricular
activities. With these she got into Tennesse
State University with full scholarship.
At age 19 she became a
news anchor for the local
CBS television station. Winfrey
excelled in the casual and
personal talk-show format, and in
1984 she moved to Chicago to host the
faltering talk show AM Chicago. Winfrey’s honest and
engaging personality quickly turned the program into a
success, and in 1985 it was renamed The Oprah Winfrey
Show. Syndicated nationally in 1986, the program
became the highest-rated television talk show in the
United States and earned several Emmy Awards.
She played lead roles
in lots of movies. She
conducted lots of
shows. With the
money she earned, she
helped lots of people in
need.
And most importantly
she inspired and gave
hopes to millions with
her life story.
