TARGET STRENGTH FOR MIX PROPORTIONING Eick = fek+1.65xs £ fek+X where £ ck = Target average compressive strength at 28 days. fek = Characteristic compressive strength at 28 days = Standard deviation X = Factor based on grade of Concrete From Table 2_ standard deviation, s = 5.0 N/mm” And From Table | Value of X. X = 6.5 Nimm? Therefore, target strength using both equation , that is a) Pick = fek+1.65 xs ,= 30-+1.65 x 5,0 = 38.25 Nimm2 b) f’ ck = fektX 30+ 6.5= 36.50 Nimm” The higher value is to be adopted . Therefore. target strength will be 38.25N/mm’ as 38.25N/mm’ 736.50N/mm" D. APPROXIMATE AIR CONTENT From Table -3 of IS:10262 , the approximate amount of entrapped air to be expected in normal (non-air- entrained) concrete is 1.0 percent for 20 mm nominal maximum size of aggregate E. SELECTION OF WATER CEMENT RATIO. From Table ~5 of IS:456 Specifications, Maximum Water ~ Cement Ratio = 0.45 From Figure-1 Grade Curve of IS; 10262, the free water cement ratio required for the target strength of 38.2SN/mm’ is 0.41As 0.41 < 0.45, Hence OK. F. SELECTION OF WATER CONTENT From Table 4,Clause 5.3 of IS 10262-2019 water content for 20mm maximum size aggregate = 186 tr (for $0 mm slump) Estimated Water content for 10min slump = 186 +(6/100 x 186) ltr» Bro, As admixture is used the water content can be reduced up to 20% and By reducing water content of 20% achieved from trials, We have arrived water content = 157.73ltr, Adopted 158 I. CALCULATION OF CEMENT CONTENT. Water — Cement Ratio = 0.41 ‘Cement Content =158.0/0.41 =385.37kg/m’, Adopted 385kg/m! As per Table -5 of IS: 456 Specifications Minimum Cement content For Severe condition is 320.0 kg/m’ Hence 385 kg/m’> 320.0 kg/m’ Hence OK ROPORTION OF VOLUME OF COARSE AGGREGATE AND FINE AGGREGATE CONTENT From Table 5 of 1S:10262_ volume of coarse aggregate corresponding to 20mm size aggregate and fine aggregate (zone-III) for water-cement ratio of 0.50 = 0.64 In the present case water-cement ratiOvis 0.41. Therefore volume of coarse aggregate is required to be increased to decrease the fine aggregate content. As the water- content ratio is lower by 0.09volume of coarse aggregate is increased by 0.018 (at the rate of “0.01 for every (+/-) 0.05 change in water-cement ratio). Therefore corrected proportion of volume)of coarse aggregate for the water cement ratio of 0.41 = 0.658 So, volume of Coarse Ageregate = 0.658 Volume of Fine Aggregate Content = 0.342 H.
