Please describe your reasons to undertake Korean language training and how this Korean
language competency relates to your study or work. Please also describe the plans for your
academic or professional career in the future.
Undertaking Korean language training holds immense significance for me, as it is intricately tied to my academic and professional
journey. My decision to acquire proficiency in the Korean language stems from my deep-rooted passion for film and storytelling,
particularly within the context of Korean cinema.

As an aspiring filmmaker, my desire to explore the intricacies of Korean cinema is twofold. First, gaining fluency in the Korean
language would empower me to engage directly with primary sources such as interviews, articles, and commentary in their original
form. This level of access would enable me to extract nuanced insights from filmmakers, critics, and industry professionals, thereby
deepening my understanding of their creative processes, artistic choices, and the cultural contexts that shape their work.

Second, my research focus on the "Emergence and Evolution of New Wave Korean Cinema: Exploring Innovative Styles, Social
Commentary, and International Impact" perfectly aligns with the direction of my studies at Korea National University of Arts. This
concentration not only underscores my commitment to studying and appreciating Korean cinema but also enables me to synthesize
its most innovative and impactful aspects into my own filmmaking. My intention is to seamlessly blend the dynamic styles, social
insights, and international resonance that characterize Korean cinema into the films I create. By crafting narratives that resonate
both locally and globally, I aim to contribute to the further internationalization of Korean film while adding a distinctive cross-
cultural perspective.

My academic and professional plans revolve around the nexus of film scholarship and creative practice. Following my studies at
Korea National University of Arts, I envision embarking on a multifaceted career. Firstly, I aspire to create films that are not only
artistically compelling but also socially relevant. Drawing from the insights gained through the exploration of New Wave Korean
Cinema, I plan to infuse my work with innovative styles that serve as vehicles for exploring pertinent societal themes.

Secondly, my linguistic proficiency will also enable me to serve as a bridge between Korean and international film communities. As
an adept communicator, I intend to engage in insightful film journalism and criticism that contributes to the discourse surrounding
Korean cinema's global impact.

Ultimately, my journey in mastering the Korean language is driven by the aspiration to immerse myself fully in the world of Korean
cinema, extract its essence, and ingeniously incorporate its influences into my own cinematic creations. Through this synergy of
scholarship, cultural immersion, and creative expression, I aim to become a filmmaker whose work not only resonates locally but
also contributes to the broader global dialogue in film.
