INTRODUCTION
This guide is to ensure that all suppliers, Quality development, Quality Department, SUD,
are using the same measurement criteria when measuring garments. There will be
exceptions to these guidelines which will be noted on measurement chart in the order
sheets.
Outlined below are measuring guidelines:
 All measurements should be taken with either a plastic or metal measuring tape.
Plastic measuring tape will stretch over time; these should be checked periodically
against a control precision measuring tape to ensure accuracy.
 All measurements are to be taken on garments laid flat, in a relaxed position, with
all wrinkles gently smoothed out. All measurements should be taken with buttons
and/or zippers fully closed unless otherwise indicated.
Definitions:
cb = center back
cf = center front
hsp = Highest Shoulder Point

NUMBERING SYSTEM
Numbers are based on an ABC system. Each number identifies a “zone” of the body.

B 1/2 chest 1cm below armhole, straight across from side to side. Based on style -> side to side
measure is either to sideseam or natural fold.
waist line from hsp Indicates the position where "1/2 waist" s/b measured.
C 1/2 waist Measure straight at waist level from side to side.
D 1/2 hem Measure with closed garment, measure straight across from side to side (on the
inside).
G shoulder across Straight across from shoulder point to shoulder point.
G1 shoulder length Measure along shoulder excl. neck pipings.
armhole straight Measure from top of armhole (shoulder seam or natural fold) straight to bottom of
(set-in) armhole.

armhole straight Measure at front from hsp at seam or natural shoulder fold straight down to the
(raglan) bottom of armhole.
sleeve length from shoulder Measure from shoulder point straight down to the bottom of sleeve edge; incl.cuffs.

sleeve length from hsp Measure from hsp straight down to the bottom of sleeve edge; incl. Cuffs; excl. Neck
pipings.
J 1/2 bicep Measure from armhole at a right angle to center fold of sleeve.
K 1/2 elbow
Divide sleeve seam into 1/2 and measure at a right angle to center fold of sleeve.
L 1/2 sleeve opening Measure along sleeve opening (on the inside).
Dress
hip line from hsp indicates the position where "1/2 hip" s/b measured.
E 1/2 hip Measure straight at hip level from side to side.

Neck Details

F Neck width Measure from hsp to hsp. For collar, roll-neck and hood measure from seam to seam,
for binding measure inside from hsp to hsp.
F1 Front neck drop from hsp Measure from hsp (seam or natural shoulder fold) straight down vertically to top level
of deepest neck point at front.
F2 Back neck drop from hsp Measure from hsp (seam or natural shoulder fold) straight down vertically to top level
of deepest neck point at back.
F3 collar stand length with button + buttonhole : measure from middle of button to outer edge;
without buttonhole : measure from outer edge to outer edge.
F4 collar length outer edge Measure along outer edge of collar.
F5 collar height cb Measure collar at cb excl. collar stand
F6 collar stand height cb Measure collar stand at cb.
F7 collar height cf Measure pointed edge of collar.
F8 hood length Lay the hood flat -> Measure from point where the shoulder seam meets neckline
(raglan = natural shoulder fold) straight to top of hood.
F9 hood width Lay the hood flat -> Measure at widest point of hood.
F10 roll-neck length cb Measure straight from top edge / fold of roll-neck to bottom at cb.
F11 roll-neck opening lay the roll-neck flat top edge on top edge and measure straight at top edge of roll-
neck on the inside.
F15 head through minimum Measure neck opening minimum stretched --> see pictures how to measure.

Strap Top

A length from cb Measure from center back neck (highest point) straight down to bottom.
F1a front neck drop from Measure from beginning of strap to top level of deepest neck point at front.

F12 distance between straps front Measure on the inside from beginning of strap to beginning of strap at front.
inner (CF = 1/2 distance between straps)
F13 distance between straps back Measure on the inside from beginning of strap to beginning of strap at back.
inner (CB = 1/2 distance between straps)
F14 1/2 strap length Measure from top edge of strap to front/back part of top.
With adjustable buckle : buckle at longest position.
H armhole straight front (straps) Measure from beginning of strap to armhole.

Trousers

M 1/2 waist (band on band) Measure waistband on waistband from side to side at center waistband.
Upper hip height at cf incl. wb indicates the position where "1/2 upper hip" s/b measured -> measure at cf.
N1 1/2 upper hip (3-point) Measure down from top of waistband at upper hip position cf at a right angle to each
side.
Hip height at cf incl. wb indicates the position where "1/2 hip" s/b measured -> measure at cf.
N 1/2 hip (3-point)
Measure down from top of waistband at hip position cf at a right angle to each side.
Waistband height Measure from top of waistband to bottom of waistband.
O front rise (incl. wb) Measure from top of waistband to crotch.
P back rise (incl. wb) Measure from top of waistband to crotch.
Q outseam (incl. wb) Measure from top of waistband down to the bottom along the sideseam.
R inseam Measure from crotch straight down to bottom, following inseam.
S 1/2 thigh Measure straight at crotch from side to side.
T 1/2 knee Measure at knee level straight across side to side.
U 1/2 leg opening Measure straight across from side to side (on the inside)

Skirts

M 1/2 waist (band on band) Measure waistband on waistband from side to side at center waistband.
Upper hip height at cf incl. wb indicates the position where "1/2 upper hip" s/b measured -> measure at cf.
N1 1/2 upper hip (3-point) Measure down from top of waistband at upper hip position cf at a right angle to each
side.
Hip height at cf incl. wb indicates the position where "1/2 hip" s/b measured -> measure at cf.
N 1/2 hip (3-point)
Measure down from top of waistband at hip position cf at a right angle to each side.
D 1/2 hem
Measure closed garment, measure straight across from side to side (on the inside).
Q outseam (incl. wb) Measure from top of waistband down to bottom along sideseam.
Q1 Length cf Measure from top of waistband to the bottom at center front.
Q2 Length cb Measure from top of waistband to the bottom at center back.

Pockets

V Pocket position from hsp Measure from hsp or natural shoulder straight down to top edge of pocket.
V1 Pocket position from cf / Measure from cf (without button panel: from sideseam) to outer edge of pocket.

V4 Pocket opening Measure straight on the inside along pocket opening.

V6 wb to pocket (length) Measure horizontally from outseam to beginning of front pocket along bottom of wb
V7 pocket bag length / width Turn the garment inside out and measure longest part and widest part of pocket bag.
V8 coin pocket length / width length / width of coin pocket from outer edges to outer edges.
V9 back pocket position outer Measure from bottom of waistband to top of outer edge at back pocket.

Romper Suit

A length from hsp Measure at back, from the highest shoulder point of shoulder seam (or natural fold)
straight down to the bottom of the garment.
B 1/2 chest 1cm below armhole, straight across from side to side.
N 1/2 hip (romper) Measure straight across from side to side above crotch.
G shoulder across Straight across from shoulder point to shoulder point.
G1 shoulder length Measure along shoulder excl. neck pipings.
H armhole straight Measure from top of armhole (shoulder seam or natural fold) straight to bottom
(set-in) armhole.
I sleeve length from shoulder Measure from shoulder point down along the sleeve; incl.cuffs.
J 1/2 bicep Measure from armhole at a right angle to center fold of sleeve.
L 1/2 sleeve opening Straight across the bottom of the sleeve (or cuff) on the inside.
R inseam Measure from crotch straight down to bottom, following inseam.
S 1/2 thigh Measure straight at crotch from side to side.
U 1/2 leg opening Measure straight across from side to side (on the inside)
U1 feet length Measure from top of feet to lower part of feet, straight
U2 feet width Measure widest part of feet from seam to seam.
