People still think being fat is a sign of failure at being feminine but there’s more and more research

saying it’s not true. People blame fat women for their own problems. It’s as if society couldn’t stand
to see a fat body and wanted to make its hatred known. Feminists who stick up for other women,
prosecuted for religious or ethnic reasons, stay quiet when fat is mentioned or make it worse by
accusing fat women of not caring about their health or of overeating. This article says that all women,
especially fat women, deserve better, and feminist scholars can do better.

Being overweight is increasingly perceived by society as a serious concern which associates

with feminine failure; however, previous studies increasingly challenges this belief. Questions
have been raised about the tendency to blame overweight women for their individual
difficulties, implying a societal aversion towards larger body types. In addition, individuals
addressing the support for women has been found to remain silent or contribute negatively
when the topic of obesity arises, disregarding their health or overeating. This paper seeks to
explain that all women, particularly those who are overweight, deserve better treatment and
calls upon feminist scholars to be more engaged on this matter.
