5. The Final Layer
‘The final layers a composition of the major ele-
ments — added and found —that are unique or
too large to be located according to mathemati-
cal rules orto a system. The relative regularity
and neutrality of the first three layers forms
a background/context against which these
ments become significant.
They are intermediate-sized, unique objects,
such as the sphere of the Science Museum, the
Ariane, the Rotonde des Vétérinaires, that are
placed according to organizing lines extrapo-
lated from the context.
The ale composition consists, in addi
tion, of the two major givens —the museum and
the Grand Halle —amplified by the Circular
Forest and by a series of architectural interven-
ions that help to define the boundaries of the
park without necessarily coinciding with its
perimeter: a reception square and the Baths in
the north, where they counteract the dominance
of the museum in that sector; the Music Zone
in the south, which, together with the other major
elements, helps to define an entrance zone;
a Facade Building that displays the entrances
to both the Boulevard and the Promenade
and accommodates all the facilities necessary
for the running of the park (information,
police, etc.).
