PATTERN DETAILS
This reversible bottom-up headband is a great way to learn a few
different techniques and creates a beautiful double thick headband with a
solid color on one side and a heart motif on the other. What is nice about
the double thick headband is that it hides the colorwork floats in
between the two layers, so the inside is just as beautiful as the outside.
If you have tried my Double Brim Knit Beanie pattern, the concept is
very similar. The headband will be knitted as a singular tube and then
folded inside itself and knitted together while binding off. If you
recognize the hearts, the chart is inspired by my Sweetheart Hat design
that launched earlier this year.

The Affection Headband
Casting On
To create a double thick headband:
Using a provisional cast on (I used crochet cast on with worsted
weight yarn in the contrasting color) CO 120 stitches. Using the color
for the inside (non-colorwork color) MC, knit first row, pm and join
in the round, careful not to twist any stitches.
K1, P1 ribbing until the length measures 4”, which ended up being 30
rows for me. Break MC yarn. At this point you will begin using the
contrast color (CC) of the fair isle side of the headband.
Round 1: Knit entire round in CC. See video for how to perform a
jogless color change when switching to a new color in the round:
https://youtu.be/jrVP129BnRg
Round 2: Purl around in CC. This row marks the “fold line” of the
headband.
Rounds 3-12: knit across all arounds in CC for 9 rounds. Follow color
chart below, catching floats every 3 stitches. The chart is a repeat of
24 stitches, so you will complete each row 5 times. If you are a tight
colorwork knitter, go up a size needles to US 7 (4.5mm) for the
colorwork section and switch back to US 6 (4mm) once the chart is
complete.
After the chart is complete, continue knit rounds 14-22 in CC so that
the colorwork is center in the headband.
Finishing
Attaching the headband and binding off:
Pick up all the stitches from the provisional
cast on using a second set of circular needs in
the same size or one size smaller (if needed).
Fold headband with new needles inside to line
up both needles as shown below. Ensure you
have the same number of stitches on both
needles.
Binding off:
Take MC and knit each stitch together from
both the front needle and the back needle.
Once you have 2 stitches on the right needle,
p2tog through the back loop. You will then
have one stich on the right needle. Continue in
this manner until you have one final stitch.
Break yarn and thread through remaining loop.
Weave in ends.

looks like: https://youtu.be/VjpObP4YrLY
