Actividad #6. Ensayo: Write an introduction to tourist accommodation in your

area.

Ecuador offers numerous excellent hotels, yet opting for unconventional lodging
options, such as trendy hostels in historic towns, charming haciendas in the
mountains, or enchanting lodges in the cloud forest, frequently enhances the travel
experience. Explore distinctive recommendations for accommodations in Ecuador that
can make your stay truly memorable.

Initially, let's clarify some terminology: the term 'hostal' in Ecuador can encompass
anything from a basic guesthouse to a small-scale hotel. Then there are hostels,
providing dormitory-style accommodations catering to backpackers, akin to what one
might anticipate in North America or Europe. However, in Quito, a city renowned for
its UNESCO-listed Old Town and top-notch budget lodging, the distinction blurs:
certain hostels aimed at backpackers boast rooms and amenities that surpass those
of many hotels. One of the latest and most appealing hostels in the area, Hump Day
Hostel, offers a variety of boutique-style private rooms and dormitories, a charming
rooftop terrace, a well-equipped guest kitchen, and an inviting bar and lounge area.
Advantages include a complimentary breakfast, round-the-clock reception service,
and individual privacy screens with reading lights on each bed. It presents a refreshing
concept in budget accommodation, particularly for those who have endured more
rudimentary lodgings elsewhere in South America.

Another memorable hostel experience can be found at the well-established Secret

Garden, a cornerstone of the city's backpacking community. With its rooftop terrace
providing stunning views of the Old Town, it stands out as one of the city's prime spots
for mingling with fellow travelers. Regular social gatherings, volunteering
opportunities, and Spanish lessons are available here, making it an ideal location for
travelers seeking immersion in the local scene.

On a different note, Ecuador's capital city offers some distinctive boutique options. In
the consistently popular La Mariscal district, the Anahi Boutique Hotel boasts rooms
individually themed around Ecuador's diverse geographical regions.

MANABÍ

The province of Manabí boasts a unique tourist attraction on the Ecuadorian coast. The
diversity of landscapes, beach resorts, culture, and even its gastronomy make Manabí one of
the favorite destinations for both domestic and foreign tourists.

Types of accommodations that are typical of your country in urban and rural
areas

In the past, agriculture in the Ecuadorian Highlands' altiplano was overseen through
haciendas, or large rural estates. These picturesque colonial complexes, often still operational
farms today, have, in some cases, been repurposed into hotels, presenting a distinctive
lodging option in Ecuador. Situated at the base of the Cotopaxi volcano, the charmingly rustic
Hacienda El Porvenir offers an inviting glimpse into altiplano life. Its numerous rooms and
suites feature wooden beams and possess authentic traditional charm. The more budget-
friendly Masai rooms, characterized by thatched roofs, pay homage to the lodging historically
used by the local Indigenous Quechua people. Visitors can partake in guided multi-day treks
to the hacienda's panoramic view of four volcanoes or opt for a more relaxed exploration of
rural life through horseback rides. Even if time permits only a brief stay, a visit to a hacienda
is worthwhile. Exploring the countryside doesn't necessitate joining a tour: many haciendas
provide mountain bike rentals and guidance on nearby hiking trails.

While journeying from Quito towards the Oriente, the entryway to the serene Papallacta,
housing Ecuador's famed natural hot springs, emerges as you traverse over the Andes. The
Termas de Papallacta spa complex offers a blend of luxurious amenities and simpler comforts:
its accommodations, dining venue, and spa exude elegance, while the outdoor poolside lacks
extravagant features. The overall ambiance is surreal, allowing visitors to immerse themselves
in around a dozen pools boasting temperatures nearing 104°F, all while surrounded by chilly
Andean air and peaks encircling three sides. With incredible hiking opportunities nearby, this
destination warrants at least a couple of days' stay.

Further along the route to Termas de Papallacta, other hotels like Hosteria Pampallacta boast
their own thermal pools.

One example of unusual accommodation you can find in your country.

Stately colonial residences. The enticement might extend to Ecuador's stunning coastline
teeming with exotic marine life or the remote settlements within the Amazon. Not to be
overlooked are the imposing Andes, characterized by undulating landscapes and rugged
peaks. Our recommendations for the finest accommodations in Ecuador are thoughtfully
scattered across the nation, catering to a diverse range of preferences.

Ecuador stands as a paradise for adventurers and those harboring an adventurous spirit. The
country presents superb opportunities for trekking, hiking, cycling, and horseback riding,
allowing one to witness the splendors of the natural world. The diverse bird species and the
captivating marine life, including sightings of whales and dolphins off the coast, add to
Ecuador's allure. Towering above all are the wonders of the Galapagos Islands, a cluster of
volcanic isles positioned along the equator, 500 miles into the vastness of the Pacific Ocean.
For many, a visit to the Galapagos is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and if you feel enticed
(and have the means), we've compiled a selection of remarkable accommodations on these
islands.
