The first graph details the percentage of households that owned electrical appliances

from 1920 to 2019, while the second graph displays how much time households spend doing
housework each week during the same period. Overall, ownership of all three appliances
increased during this period, with that of refrigerators growing the most. At the same time, the
amount of time that was spent on housework decreased.
Concerning the first chart, in 1920, the ownership rate of washing machine, refrigerator,
vacuum cleaner started at 40%, 0, 30% respectively. Owners of refrigerator recorded a dramatic
increase in 1960 to 90%, followed by a slight rise to 100% in 1980 and then remain stable
during the remaining period. Washing machine witnessed a gradual climb in 1960 to 70%,
before seeing an slight fluctuation in ownership to end the period at about 75% during the last
period. Vacuum cleaner grew considerably to 100% in 2000, before remaining unchanged from
that time to 2019.
The amount of time doing household chores, in contrast, fell significantly from 50 hours
to just over 10 hours per week before experiencing a slight drop to 10% in 2019.
