GROUP 5 – COLLOID

In this experiment you will make a colloid mixture. Prepare the needed materials and follow the procedure.

Materials: Clear drinking glass, table spoon or teaspoon, water, cornstarch or evaporated milk Procedure

1. In your manila paper, create a data table like Table 2. Record your observations about the mixture in the data
table.

2. Fill an empty clear drinking glass with 250 ml of water.

3. Add 1 teaspoon or ½ tablespoon of cornstarch. If you do not have a cornstarch you may use an evaporated
milk.

4. Stir the mixture with a spoon. Break up any clumps that formed.

5. After these you may answer the questions no. 1 to 4.

6. If you have a laser, point the laser to the mixture and answer the question no. 5. If you do not have a laser you
may leave it blank.

Reminder: Do not point the laser to anyone’s eyes. Doing so may cause damage to the eyes.

GROUP 1 – HOMOGENOUS MIXTURE

Juice Ko!
Materials:
- 1 tetra pack of powdered juice (any brand)
- 1 spoon
- 1 glass
- Water (cold)

Procedures:
1. Fill the glass with cold water.
2. Put the juice powder in the glass.
3. Using the spoon, stir the juice powder and water.
4. Observe what will happen.

1. What happen to the juice powder when you pour it in the glass of water?
2. Describe the appearance of water as it combines with the juice powder.
3. How did the juice powder combine with the water?

GROUP 2 –HETEROGENOUS MIXTURE

Mix, Unmix

Materials:
-1 tablespoon of cooking oil
-1 glass
-water

Procedures:
1. Fill the glass with water until ¾.
2. Put the tablespoon of cooking in the water.
3. Stir the mixture.
4. List down your observations in your paper.

1. What happens when you mix the cooking with water?
2. Why did the oil and water do not combine?
3. How can you separate the oil and water mixture?

GROUP 3 – SOLUTION

Color My World
Materials:
- 3 sachet of food color (1 yellow, 1 red and 1 blue) or you can use any colors as long as you have three
variants.
-4 clear glass (or any transparent container)
-water (1 Liter)
Procedures:
1. Fill the three glasses with water until ¾.
2. Assign the food color to each glass.
3. Start pouring the assigned food color to the glasses.
4. Stir the mixture.
5. Get a separate glass and try to mix any of the two colors.
6. List down your observations in your paper.

1. What happen to the particles of the food color when you pour it to the glass of water?
2. Did you see any particles settled at the bottom of the glass?
3. Why did the food color dissolve in the water?
4. What kind of mixture have you created?
5. What form of mixture it is?

GROUP 4 –SUSPENSION

Suspended!
Materials:
-1 glass or jar (or any clear container)
-water
-1 cup of muddy soil
-stirring rod (or any kind of stick)

Procedures:
1. Put the soil in the jar.
2. Add water to the jar and stir the mixture using the stirring rod or stick.
3. Place the jar on one side of your activity area.
4. Observe for 1 hour.
5. List down your observations.

a. What is the color of the water when you add water to the muddy soil in the jar?
b. What is the appearance of the muddy soil when you start stirring the mixture?
