3.1 METALWORK
3.1.1 Transformer door

Transformer door are designed for security, ventilation and durability. They are made
from 1,6mm to 3mm high-quality mild steel.
Hinges: 100mm heavy duty 4.0mm thick flanged brass hinges
Finishes: they are finished with red oxide primer. The units which are galvanised are
cleaned and with degreasing solution and finished with a galvanised primer.
Transformer are unavailable in hot-dipped galvanised finish.
Ironmongery: as a standard, they are equipped with pull handles, pad latches, barrel
bolts, and other ironmongery on double doors.
Door weight: 21kg/m2

4.1 PLUMBING AND DRAINAGE
4.1.1 SANITARY FITTINGS
BATHTUBS
A Bathtub is a sanitary fitting in the bathroom, a tab that you can fill in water and
bath. There are various types of bathtubs made from different materials and sizes
with the costs which varies.
4.1.1.1 Types
 Corner bathtubs- they are normally triangular bathtubs with two sides bonded
to the wall.
 Freestanding bathtubs- are bathtubs which a not bonded to a wall and stand
alone.
 Drop-in bathtubs- are bathtubs with a raised platform enclosure is constructed
to fit a certain style of bathtub called a drop-in tub, which enables the user to
drop into the tub.
 Shower and bath tabs combos- they are bathtubs with a shower fixture or
shower head etc.

4.1.1.2 Materials
Bathtubs are manufactured from various types of material. The most commonly used
materials are acrylic, porcelain, fiberglass, ceramic, enamel steel cast-iron and
stone.
Materials advantages and disadvantages
Fiberglass bathtubs
 Cheaper and easily maintained.
 They are not durable.
 Thin and flexible material which makes unstable surface.
Acrylic bathtubs
 They have many designs and durable.
 They are not porous.
 More expensive.
Porcelain, enamel steel and cast-iron bathtubs
 They are long lasting material.
 Enamel steel is more affordable than cast-iron.
 Porcelain has limited editions.

4.1.1.3 Sizes
Bathtubs have varied in sizes. They are standard, small, medium and large bathtubs.
Their sizes are as follows:
Standard bathtub
Standard bathtub: 1700mm x 700mm to 800mm wide
Small bathtub: 1400mm x 700mm with a depth of 400mm
Large bathtub: 1800mm x 800mm with a depth of 400mm

4.1.1.4 Costs
The costs of the bathtubs depend on the type material, size and installation.
Freestanding bathtubs are luxurious, so they are expensive. Their installation is
inexpensive because you only need a plumber. Bathtubs made from fiberglass are
inexpensive.
4.1.2 DRAINAGE AND PLUMBING
4.1.2.1 Piping
Piping in drainage and plumbing play a crucial role, it simply refers to the network of
pipes conveying fluid such as water in plumbing system. Different pipes are used for
different purposes. Pipe have various types, materials and sizes.
Types of pipe:
 Copper pipes
 Galvanised iron pipes
 Polythene pipes
 Lead pipes etc.
Types of waste water pipes:
 Soil pipes
 Waste water pipes
 Rain water pipes
 Vent pipes
 Anti-siphon age pipes
Drainage material pipes:
