Take my yoke upon you
As most of you know, Fran and I have swapped
pulpits. Because she cannot drive, I have been
driving up to Upper Wolf Lutheran Church,
dropping Fran off at St. Mark's to do the service
here.
One of the things that Fran loves and I dislike is
that there is air conditioning at St. Mark’s but no
air conditioning at Upper Wolf! Even with all the
windows open and all the fans going, it has been
pretty hot in the church building at Upper Wolf in
August.
The people at Upper Wolf very graciously told me
that I did not need to wear robes because of the
heat. They have told this to Fran over the years as
well.

during our ordination ceremony. Toward the end
of the service, the pastor who sponsored us took
the stole and placed it on our shoulders while we

serving his people and remembering his
promise: “Come to me, all you that are
weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I
will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you,
and learn from me; for I am gentle and
humble in heart, and you will find rest for
your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my
burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

I have not been wearing my robe because of the Fran and I always wear our stoles when leading
heat. Fran can’t wear her robe because of her worship or other services such as funerals. The
