This Standard adopt revised ISO 6708: 1995 Pipework components—Definition and selection of
DN (nominal size).
In comparison with ISO 6708: 1995, local changes of this Standard as follows:
--Added DN6 and DN8 to the value of DN series in Chapter 3, deleted DN 60
This Standard is amendment version of GB/T 1047-1995 Nominal size for pipe
components. Main changes as follows:
--Changed the Standard name;
--Changed the scope, text content of definitions;
--Simplified the value of DN series, i.e. deleted the unlisted nominal size of original
Standard ISO 6708: 1995, e.g.: DN3, DN90, DN950 etc;
--Deleted the designation method for original Standard
This Standard is replaced of GB/T 1047-1995.

1 Scope
This Standard specifies the definition and series of DN (Nominal Size)
This Standard is applicable to the pipeline fittings which use DN marking as per the regulations
in relevant Standards.
Note: It can also be used for other size method which different from this Standard, e.g. thread, press fit, socket-
welding or pipeline fittings of butt weld ends, or pipeline fittings which using the designation of NPS (Nominal
Pipe Size), OD (Outer Diameter), ID (Inner Diameter) or G (Size designation of pipe thread)
2 Definitions
DN: Used for the size designation of letter and number of pipeline system fitting. It consists by
letter DN and nondimensional number group. The number is corresponding to characteristic
dimension which aperture or outer diameter (in mm) of ends connecting fittings.
Note 1: Except for the regulations in relevant Standards, the number behind of letter DN does not mean that the
measurement value, it can not be used for the purpose of calculating
Note 2: These Standards which using the system of DN designation, shall be indicated the relations for DN and
size of pipeline fittings, e.g. DN/OD or DN/ID.
