Assignment # 7

Angelica B. Catan
MAEd-IE

A. ONE WAY ANOVA

Research Situation:

Suppose a researcher wants to test three reviewing techniques. She recruited 30 takers to participate in
the study. The takers are randomly assigned to use one of the three reviewing techniques for one month
in preparation for the LET exam. At the end of the month, all the 30 takers took the same exam.

Research Question:

Do takers’ mean scores for LET exam result vary across reviewing techniques used?

Research Hypothesis:

HO = There is no significant difference in the mean scores of LET takers with different reviewing
techniques used.

Ha = There is a significant difference in the mean scores of LET takers with different reviewing techniques
used.

Hypothetical data:

RT 1 RT 2 RT 3
81 94 95
79 78 96
82 85 82
78 80 88
85 75 87
88 98 84
83 86 93
94 71 85
85 79 91
92 88 92
Data Analysis in JASP:

Interpretation:

Data are normally distributed since no two p-values <.05. Test for Equality of Variance (p-value not <.05;
assumption is not violated). Test for equality of population means; F=2.358; p = 0.114. The p-value 0.114
is higher than the level of significance. This means there is no sufficient evidence that there is a
difference in the scores among the three reviewing techniques used. Therefore, the null hypothesis is
not rejected.
B. CHI-SQUARE HOMOGENEITY OF SAMPLES TEST (2 X 2 TABLE)

Research Situation:

In a study conducted on the use of vaccines in reducing the severity of the Covid 19 infection, records of
the Covid 19 cases/patients admitted between July 1 and October 30, 2022 were reviewed. Each patient
was classified as non-vaccinated and vaccinated and as to the severity of the patients’ infection as non-
critical and critical.

Research Question:

Is there a significant difference in the proportion of Covid 19 infection to those who develop critical
infection between those who were vaccinated and those who were not vaccinated?

Research Hypothesis:

HO = There is no significant difference in the proportion of patients who were critically infected by Covid
19 between those who were non vaccinated and vaccinated.

Ha = The proportion of patients who are critically infected by Covid 19 is higher for those who were not
vaccinated than those who were vaccinated.

Hypothetical data:

Vaccinated? Covid 19 Infection Total

Non-Critical Critical
Yes 84 21 105
No 48 105 153
Total 132 126 258
Data Analysis in JASP:

Interpretation:

H0 is rejected. (x2 = 58.928, df = 1, p <.001) The difference in the observed proportions of patients who
were infected critically is highly significant.
