Module 3: Qualitative Characteristics of Images
SPHERICAL MIRRORS

Activity 1: L-O-S-T after Reflection?

I. OBJECTIVES:
Construct ray diagrams to determine the location, orientation, size, and type of images formed by a curved mirror.

II. MATERIALS:
 ruler
 colored pens

III. PROCEDURE:
1. Using a ruler, construct ray diagrams to determine the location, orientation, size, and type of images formed by a curved mirror.
Use at least two principal rays to locate the image formed in a curved mirror.

CONCAVE MIRROR

A. Farther than the Center of Curvature B. At the Center of Curvature

C F
C F V

C. Between C and F D. At the Focal Point

C F V
C F V

E. Between the Focus and the Vertex

CONVEX MIRROR

F. Farther than C in front of the mirror G. Between F and V in front of the Mirror

V C F V F C

IV. GUIDE QUESTIONS:

Q1. Refer to the table. How does the location of the object affect the characteristics and location of the image formed in a concave
mirror? Convex Mirror?

Q2. What type of mirror do dentists usually use to clearly see the images of our teeth?

Q3. What kind of curved mirror do you see in most of the department stores? Why do they use such kind of mirror?
