E-Waste Assignment

Mr. Fletcher’s Computer Engineering Class - 2023

Use internet research to answer the following questions in either a Microsoft Word Document or
Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation. All of your answers must be in your own original words. Be
sure to keep a list of all sources that informed your research, and cite them using MLA format
on a separate page / slide at the end of your document / presentation.

Be sure to label each question in your word / power point presentation clearly using headers.
Write at least 100 words per question. Your completed assignment should be around 700 words
when completed.

Each question is worth 4 points, and the assignment total will be scored out of 28 points.

Questions

1) Define Electronic Waste (e-waste) and provide examples of common electronic devices
that contribute to this waste.
2) Explain the rapid growth of e-waste globally and its impact on the environment.
3) What is planned obsolescence and its contribution to e-waste?
4) What are some of the hazardous substances commonly found in e-waste? Identify at
least 4 substances.
5) What are the effects of these substances on the human body when someone is exposed
to the 4 substances that you have identified?
6) What are 4 things that you can do personally starting today to reduce e-waste?
7) Find 4 different companies in your local area that will accept your e-waste and recycle it
responsibly. Please provide the following:
a) The name of the company
b) The contact information of the company (phone number, address, website, etc)
c) A google map showing directions from our school to the company’s location.
