DEFINITION OF EVIDENCE BASED PRACTICE-


 In Medicine EBP has been defined as conscientious, explicit and judicious use of current best evidence in
making decision about care of individual patients. Practice of evidence based medicine means integrating
individual clinical expertise with best available external clinical evidence from systematic research.
(sackett et. 1996)
 It is an approach to health care practice in which the clinician is aware of the evidence that relates to
clinical practice and the strength of that evidence.
CHARACTERISTICS
 It is a problem -based and considers the context of practitioner’s current experience.
 It brings together the best available evidence and practice
 It combines research with knowledge and theory.
 It facilitate the application of research finding by incorporating first and second hand knowledge into
practice.
 It is a problem solving approach to clinical practice that integrate a systematic search and critical appraisal
for most relevant evidence to answer a burning clinical question .
COMPONENTS of EBP:
 Evidence from research, theories, expert panel
 Information about patient preference and value
 Evidence from assessment of patient history and patient physical examination and availability of health
care resources.
 Use of ethical expertise.
NEED FOR EVIDENCE PRACTICE:
 For making sure that each client get best possible services.
 Update knowledge and is essential for life long learning.
 Provide clinical judgment.
 Improvement in care provided and save lives .
GOAL OF EBP:

 Provide practicing nurse the evidence-based data to deliver effective care


 Resolve problem in clinical setting
 Achieve excellence in care delivery
 Reduce the variation in nursing care and assist with efficient and effective decision making.
