A DDP PUBLICATION
ChatGPT: An equalizer
This artificial intelligence chatbot launched last fall by OpenAI is touted to be able to level the playing
field for travel companies. Let us see what its capabilities are and how it can help the industry grow
and innovate. Will this technology be used in meaningful ways or will it fade into the background.

Track consumer interaction

Some companies can be too small to monitor all the communication that is
taking place between users on their platform. Using ChatGPT, they can develop
an algorithm to detect patterns and identify messages on their sites when
users attempt to exchange contact information. By integrating it easily into their
platforms, companies can gauge trends. The most complex work is to determine
the right prompt to give to ChatGPT to get the desired answers.

Scalability
It can be a boon to travel companies ranging in size from Expedia to a
30-employee company. It is not too small for them to add a ChatGPT integration
that generates draft responses to guest messages. It is indeed a great equalizer
and companies don’t need to invest in communications software to handle tasks
so easily performed by ChatGPT. No doubt, there are some interesting potential
use cases should its efficacy evolve.

A transformative technology
ChatGPT can be compared to the introduction of the internet and mobile phones.
The world could be looking at another transformative technology, another
generational technology that could impact all kinds of areas. For instance, the
content and distribution system for tour and activity providers can use ChatGPT
to develop a tool that can create better quality marketing content. Technology
must actively solve a problem, remove friction and make it easier for everyone.

Accessibility
This technology is very accessible; it democratizes AI, and everyone has an
equal playing field. Everyone has access to this technology so anybody can
build a chatbot in a few hours, that’s as good as Expedia’s chatbot. Yet while the
access may be even, bigger companies are likely in a better position to overcome
ChatGPT’s shortcomings because the technology is only as good as the data it
can access. ChatGPT is gradually gaining that trust in its daily usage.

Makes recommendations
Companies can develop an AI-powered itinerary builder using this technology
to offer personalized recommendations to their clients. This can also allow for
booking flights, hotels and activities in a few clicks. After all, travel should be
about experiencing new places and cultures, not about the stress of planning.
ChatGPT can be used to help customers plan and book their travel effortlessly,
allowing them to focus on creating unforgettable memories.

More than a virtual assistant

Not just offer a virtual assist, but companies can broaden the capabilities of the
virtual assistant so it can function as a data analyst for travel administrators and
finance managers. Hence, ChatGPT can help the assist carry out a number
of processes, including analyse real-time spend data, analyse spend versus
travel policy and predict future spend habits. The virtual assistant can also offer
feedback on travel and expense questions, identify saving opportunities.
