Medieval Romance: Medieval romantic writing in England spanned some two hundred years,
from what is known as Waldef's Prologue in post-conquest England to the Prologue to
Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. These romances often featured themes such as chivalry, courtly
love, and adventure.

Affair of England: This refers to a flexible corpus of medieval literature that deals with
English history, culture and folklore. These romances mostly featured English heroes and
were set in many eras, from the "vaguely Anglo-Saxon" to the time of their production.

Romantic literature: The romantic movement in English literature of the early 19th century
had its beginnings in 18th-century poetry (the Gothic novel and the novel of sensibility).
Romantic literature often primordialist nature, emotion and individualism and also reacted
against urbanism and industrialization.

Regency Romance: Many romance novels have been set in the Regency period. This period is
often associated with Jane Austen's novels and is characterized by a focus on social etiquette,
fashion, and courtship.

Modern Romance: Modern romance novels are still very popular in England and around the
world. These novels often explore themes of love, relationships and personal growth, they can

Since its inception, romance has developed greatly, thanks to the great and interesting stories
that various authors have created, which has caused romance to spread to global levels.

In conclusion, romance has been an important part of English literature and culture
throughout history and still remains so today, regardless of the years, from medieval romances
to modern novels, too. It has explored various themes of love, adventure, among others, and
has reflected the variable cultural and social perspective of England.
