Alzheimer’s disease

★ What is it?

Alzheimer's disease is the most common type of dementia. It is a progressive disease


beginning with mild memory loss and possibly leading to loss of the ability to carry on a
conversation and respond to the environment.

★ What causes it?

Alzheimer's disease is thought to be caused by the abnormal build-up of proteins in and


around brain cells. The proteins: Amyloid and Tau, form plaque around the brain cells
and tangles between the brain cells.

★ Symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease:

❖ Difficulty with completing familiar tasks
❖ Poor judgement
❖ Changes in mood
