Deforestation Summit Successful
The International World
Deforestation Summit, which took
place last week, has been called a
great success. A convened summit
of world lumber stakeholders
resulted in an agreement to share
responsibility for the management
and protection of the world’s
forests and lumber. The summit
brought together several leaders
from around the globe to discuss
the crucial need to address
deforestation. It was attended by
multiple individuals from several
countries, including NGOs,
government employees, and
citizens in deforestation-related
occupations.
The summit reached a consensus
that an international body would
be created. All parties jointly
agreed that it would operate under
another international organization
to help achieve more support and
promotion. The consensus desired
an international body over the
issue being controlled by each
country because it could guarantee

responsibly. This international
body could also ensure that the
issue of deforestation is controlled
in a manner that all countries in the
world will be equally participating
in combating wood depletion.
Stakeholders from this summit
plan to accomplish this by working
together for a greater cause. The
consensus suggested working with
communities and governments, re-
planting trees in the areas in which
they were cut down and effectively
disposing of wood resources by
recycling. The majority agreed on
promoting building infrastructure
out of alternate materials and
restricting the printing of paper in
developed countries, primarily
school resources for the higher
grades. Multiple parties advocated
for the creation of online textbooks
and books to limit the use of
lumber in countries that have
access to the Internet. Many
proposed that new ideas need to be
created that prioritize conservation
while also considering the
economy in the local communities
and governments. To achieve this,
the international body was to send
members to the countries that
needed assistance in finding new
ways to use less lumber.

Developed countries would

implement laws and regulations to
limit deforestation and restore
natural habitats that have been
damaged. Some countries
suggested that a new tree had to be
planted for every tree cut down.
Developing countries were to
regulate how many trees were
being cut down per year. It was
recommended that if necessary in
developing countries, financial
assistance could be available and
possible incentives for motivation
to limit deforestation.

Various countries agreed on the

idea that we should strive to find
ways to build structures that are
sustainable and environmentally
friendly, while also meeting the
needs of people around the globe.

upcoming months after further
research and discussions. It was
unanimous that it is necessary to
create sustainable solutions so that
future generations can see the
magnificent beauty of what we call
“earth.”
