Capstone Update #2

What I have accomplished so far

After the first Capstone update, I continued working on my original plot idea for the novel. However
last week, I decided to change a couple of ideas as I believed it would benefit my progress for this
project. The first change I made were the characters. My previous idea was to focus my book on a
classroom setting where a teacher would educate the students on how global warming was affecting
polar bears and their natural habitat. Now, my theme is focused on a polar bear exposed to the
possible dangers global warming has on her habitat, and with the help of her best friend, she can
brainstorm ideas that can help reduce pollution emissions in the arctic. Since creating a new concept, I
have constructed my characters as well as the contents for each page in my book. I have also decided
on a title for my book.

Furthermore, I have begun to research print shops where I am going to get a children’s book binded .

What I plan to accomplish by the end of the week

My plan is to have all my pages with a brief illustration completed, including script/dialog.

Have more research on polar bears by the end of this week.

Start to create the illustrations on InDesign

My needs (materials, time, space, mentor etc.)

I need to start an InDesign account to create illustrations for the book.

Challenges I encountered and how I have overcome them

These past 2 weeks I have encountered many struggles both mentally and physically. When I first
realized that my original idea was not going to work, I started to panic. However, after brainstorming a
second option that I was more than happy with, I was able to quickly establish a solid foundation for my
book. This made me realize that having a plan that I feel confident in is extremely important as this
allows me to fully express my creativity and create a product that I am proud of.
