Sound Wave Experiment Procedure

This document outlines an experiment on producing and detecting radio waves. The objectives are to produce radio waves using a battery, copper wires, and metal fork, and then detect those radio waves using a portable radio. The materials and apparatus needed are two 25cm copper wires, a C or D battery, electrical tape, metal fork, and portable radio. The procedure involves taping the wires to the battery, wrapping one wire around the fork handle, turning on the radio to static, and stroking the free wire across the fork prongs at distances of 15cm and 20cm from the radio to produce radio waves.

I. Discussion/method/theory

II. Objectives
1. To produce radio waves
2. Detect radio waves

III. Material & Apparatus

1. Two - 25 cm copper wire
2. C or D battery
3. Electrical Tape
4. Metal Fork
5. Portable Radio

IV. Data Procedure

1. Tape one end of the first wire to the one end of the battery. Tape one end of the second
wire to the other end of the battery.
2. Wrap the loose end of one of the wires tightly around the handle of the fork.
3. Turn on the radio to the AM band and move the selector past all stations until you reach
static.
4. Hold the fork close to the radio. Stroke the free end of the wire across the fork’s prongs.
5. At the distance of 15 cm from the radio, stroke again the free end of the wire across the
fork’s prongs.
6. Repeat step 5 at a distance of 20 cm from the radio.
