Hi, Leo!

Thanks for your e-mail. It was great to read it. Thank you for an ask and possibility to
spend New Year together, but I have to refuse. It’s so sad to do this, but I think that you
know about hard situation on the territory of my native country – Ukraine. Russia attacks our
nation and its so emotionally hard to move abroad.
But you don’t need to feel blue. I know exactly, that in despite of many facts, you’ll
spend New Year 2022-2023 great. I think so, at least, because of traditions that are dedicated
to this holiday in England. In my opinion, they are so interesting and breathtaking. My
country also has a lot of New Year traditions, but in every family, it has a little bit of
difference. In my family, the main symbol of this day is Christmas tree. Usually, we decorate
it with Christmas balls and garlands. Also, we make a festive dinner, where we invite all
members of our family. We give each other presents that we put under the tree. Sometimes
it seems like the presents were put there by Santa, but it’s not true. The last tradition happens
at the midnight. When we sit at the table, we always listen President’s speech. Usually, he
tells us about our achievements for the year, but I even can’t explain what he is going to tell
about this problematical year, especially because of the war.
It was lovely to me to tell you about New Year traditions in my family, and I’d like to
read about your ones. And actually, I really want you come to me. I don’t want to endanger
you, so I propose you visit Ukraine in next spring, when war will end and Ukraine will win.
I’m going to show you properties of my regions and a lot of fascinating places.
Well, that's all for now. Hope to hear from you soon.
Best wishes,
Mariia
