Characters: Storyteller 1, Storyteller 2, The rabbit, The turtle, The eagle, The

Fox, Bears, Hedgehogs

Storyteller 1: Once upon a time there was a proud rabbit who lived in the jungle.
She showed off everyday, saying that she was the fastest animal in the jungle. One
day she showed off to the fox and the turtle.
Hare: I’m the fastest animal in the whole world.

FOX: In the whole world.

Rabbit: Nobody can beat me


Fox: Nobody can beat her.

Storyteller 2 : The turtle looked up at the hare and said…

Turtle: I know I could beat you in a race any day.


Hare: You beat me? HaHaHaHaHa Don’t make me laugh! I am so much faster
than you. (He shows off his muscles and starts to run up and down.)

Storyteller 1: The rabbit laughed and laughed


Storyteller 2: Then she met some bears. (Foxes enter at the centre of the stage.)
Hare: Bears, do you think that turtle could beat me in a race?

Bears: Oh, no she couldn’t. (Foxes shake their heads in disbelief.)

Turtle: Oh yes, I could. (She nods her head.)

Storyteller 1: Then some hedgehogs came to see what was happening. (Hedgehogs
enter the centre of the stage.)
Hare: Hedgehogs, do you think that tortoise could beat me in a race?
Hedgehogs: Oh yes, she could. (The Hedgehogs nod their heads.)
Hare: Oh no she couldn’t. (He shakes his head.)

Storyteller 1: The animals continued to argue about who would win the race. (All
the animals start arguing with one another making lots of noise.)
Storyteller 2: Then, suddenly the eagle swooped down to where all the animals
were. (Eagle flies gracefully on to the stage.)
Eagle: (Eagle uses a whistle to stop the noise.) What’s going on here?
Hare: The silly turtle thinks she can beat me in a race. Do you think she could beat
me?
Eagle: I don’t know but there is one way of finding out. Why don’t you have a
race?
Everyone: What a great idea. (They all start cheering.)

The turtle: Hmmmmm

Rabbit: You wanna race?

Fox: Race! Race! Race! Race!

The turtle : I accept your challenge

The Rabbit: This is going to be so funny! I’m going to dance circles around you
the whole Time

The fox: The whole…… hm

Storyteller 1: The turtle accepted the challenge.

Storyteller 2: A few days later the day of the race came.

Announcer: (Excitedly) Welcome to the The Great Race! Meet the racers the
champion of the world and the fastest creature alive……… Rabbit
And the turtle

The rules are we run from here to the finish line. The first one to cross the line wins

Is it clear?

The rabbit: Hmm

The fox: is it clear?

The turtle: Yeeees

The fox: Ready set Go!


Storyteller 1: All the animals cheered at the side as the rabbit ran off very quickly
and the turtle just plodded along.
Storyteller 2: After a while the rabbit stopped and said…
The rabbit: (she wipes her brow.) I’m already half way through so I think I will
have a nap in the warm sunshine. (The rabbit starts to make herself comfortable,
lies down and starts snoring.)

Storyteller 1: The Rabbit fell fast asleep and the turtle walked steadily on and on.
Storyteller 2: The rabbit woke up suddenly. (He starts to yawn and stretch.)
Hare: What a nice sleep. No sign of the turtle so I better stroll along and finish the
race.

Storyteller 1: The rabbit ran to the finish line.


Storyteller 2: Just as she got there she saw the turtle crossing the line.
Storyteller 1: All the other animals were cheering and celebrating the turtle’s
victory. (All the other animals start to congratulate the turtle. The rabbit stomps off
in anger.)

The turtle: I did it!


Storyteller 2: In the end the turtle won the race

The turtle : Thank you.

The rabbit: no, It’s not fair I’m the fastest it’s not fair

Turtle: Slow and steady wins the race.


Everyone: (except the hare who is sulking) Hip, Hip, Hooray! Hip, Hip, Hooray,
Hip, Hip, Hooray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
