Welcome to the FEAS.101 Basic Law Module!

This module will be an engaging and comprehensive exploration of the fundamental


principles that underpin Turkish Legal System. This syllabus is designed to provide you with
a solid foundation in the essential concepts and doctrines of law, equipping you with the
knowledge and analytical skills necessary to navigate the intricate world of legal theory and
practice. Throughout this course, we will delve into the core elements of constitutional law, the
structure of legal systems, and the principles governing the relationship between individuals
and the state.

This module is one of the first-year core modules of Çukurova University, Faculty of
Economics and Administrative Sciences. This module which is explicitly organised for first-
year undergraduate students mainly aims to provide a chance for the students to explore the
principles and theories of basic law and to understand the current debatable issues which
underpin the different models related to the field of law.

The module is planned as 3 hours of weekly face-to-face teaching classes during the
2023-2024 Fall Semester. All details about the 15-week of this module are explained below.

Module Objective

The Basic Law Module aims to establish a solid foundational understanding of essential
legal principles and concepts. This module endeavours to develop participants' critical thinking
and analytical skills, enabling them to navigate the intricacies of the legal landscape
confidently. Ultimately, the Basic Law Module seeks to instil an appreciation for the pivotal
role of law in maintaining societal order, resolving conflicts, and upholding justice, making it
a vital stepping stone for those interested in law and jurisprudence.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the 2023-2024 Fall Semester, the students are expected to have acquired the
following achievements from the module:

• Students have basic knowledge and understanding of the main framework of Turkish
Legal System.
• Students can explain and discuss the meaning of law.

• Students have basic knowledge of the main areas of law.


• Students have a solid grasp of fundamental legal concepts, principles, and doctrines,
providing them with a strong foundational understanding of the law.
• Students can think critically and analyse legal issues effectively, applying sound legal
reasoning to complex problems and cases.

Teaching Contact Time


The module is planned as 3 hours weekly face-to-face teaching classes during the 2023-
2024 Fall Semester. Lectures will be held between 13:00-16:00 on Mondays. There are no
other workshops or seminar sessions except lectures for this module.

Assessment
The assessment for this module is split as follows:
