A Decision That Saved My Life

Years ago when I was younger, I lived on a island in a peaceful village that was
underneath the most beautiful night sky I had ever seen. The stars shining so
bright that you could see each constellation. Every night there was like a dream
but that dream came to an end in one night.
On August 30th, I got up and do my usual routine, wake up, brush my teeth, bathe,
eat and head out to my summer class but today was different. A comet by the
name of Tiamat was passing over the sky at night. This comet is a once in a life
time occurrence and I did not want to miss it.
Rafaela, a quiet, smart and cute girl who sits beside me was also obsessed with
the stars. Even though we had only exchanged a few words during summer class, I
had found myself bewitched by her. With all my might, I muster up the courage to
ask her out to watch Tiamat pass. To my surprise, she said yes. I felt tiny stars in
my head explode. I told her time I would meet her and she picked a place.
And so time had come, I met her at the place picked and I was astonished by her
in her beautiful white dress. We walked around until we reached the other part of
the island, far away from the village, pointing out constellations and talked about
each other’s life and gotten to know each other better. And for the first time I
heard Rafaela shout “I see it, I see Tiamat”. She raced up a hill and told me to
follow her for she knew a spot where we can get a better view, I was hesitant but
I remember my mother once told to chase my dreams and so I did.
At the top of the hill, We could’ve seen Tiamat the big blue ball of space rock
passing. Both of us was in awe, “I’m glad I can share this moment with you”,
Rafaela said. Before I can mutter a word in response, Tiamat had split, at first I
was in awe, it was a like a scene from a movie but then the stars began fall. The
split piece of Tiamat had entered the earth atmosphere and headed to the
direction of the village.
A blinding light illuminated the sky, followed by a deafening roar the split piece
had hit the village and the other part of the island. We felt the shockwave and
were knocked off our feet, both of us were okay but the same cannot be said for
the other part of the island. Ten years later, Rafaela and I went to visit the other
half of the island ‘The lake of Tiamat’.
