The Pantheon of Spain
(previously called the “Pantheon
of Illustrious Men”) aims to
maintain the memory of the
representatives of the history of
Spanish democracy and of those
people who have stood out for
their work in defense of
democratic coexistence, peace
and human rights.
Who buil it?

Fernando Arbós y
Tremanti was a
Spanish architect,
known for works
such as the church
of San Manuel and
San Benito.
When was built?

The building is located on


the site of the old basilica
of Nuestra Señora de
Atocha, and was built
between 1892 and 1899,
according to the project
of Fernando Arbós.
Architectual style

It is in a very
characteristic
neomedieval style
reminiscent of
Byzantine art.
What was it used for?

El Panteón de España es un
museo que exhibe los
monumentos funerarios de
algunos de los más
importantes políticos
españoles de finales del siglo
XIX y principios del XX. Todos
ellos dan nombre a alguna
calle o plaza de Madrid.
