Superstitions

Superstition is an irrational belief or practice associated with magical, mystical or

supernatural events and rules, usually linked to the occult also it can be known as a belief

strange to religious faith and contrary to reason. The superstitions are really common in all the

cultures and can range from small gestures to have/get "luck" to more elaborate beliefs. But

why people believe in superstitions? The reason can vary but a reason could be that they are

part of our culture and the people around us taught us to believe in those things, other reason

could be that they are related to the human instinct for example: a prehistoric human being

might associate the rustle of grass with the approach of a predator and hide.

Some examples of superstitions are:

1. Crossing one’s fingers.

This gesture is used to protect yourself from “bad luck and negative energies” and

bring the “good luck and good energies” to you, also is used to wish for something to

happen. His origin comes from the Christianism and the paganism, the gesture consists

in using your middle finger and your index finger to create a cross. Other important

fact is that the meaning of the gesture can vary/change according to the situation or the

message that the person wants to transmit.

2. Do not sweep your house at night. It is said that this activity brings bad luck and bad

energies, also related with death, witchcraft and witches, this superstition have

something that might be true and it is not the part of the bad luck or bad energies the

thing is that this activity can pick up the dirt and this may affect your health while

sleeping.

There exist a lot of superstitions and they aren’t only false beliefs they are an important part

of our culture and behavior because they are part of everyone's daily life also they might have

something that is true, but you don’t have to feel afraid from something that can bring bad
luck or negative emotions to your life the thing is that you have to know how to separate the

reality from the illusion and fantasy.
