Introduction

Facebook Meta, formerly known as Facebook is a social media platform that has

been a subject of concern regarding its influence on mental health. This Concept paper

shown that Facebook meta can cause or worsen symptoms of depression and anxiety

in Students.

Having the title: Facebook Meta: It’s Influence to the Mental Health of the Grade

12 ICT Students in Balayan Senior High School.

Social media usage has risen dramatically, changing the way people

relate, communicate, and live. It offers a platform for its users to share information and

spread awareness regarding various issues including mental health problems.

Background of the Study

Facebook Meta have been associated with negative impacts on mental health,

including depression, anxiety, and stress. However, the relationship between social

media use and mental health is complex and not fully understood.

Meanwhile, Facebook is the most often used social networking site worldwide

with almost 3 billion users. Many of these users engage in intense Facebook use by

spending a lot of time on Facebook, having a substantial number of friends on

Facebook, and feeling emotionally connected to Facebook. Nonetheless, as Facebook

Meta has grown in popularity, researchers have begun expressing concern about its

impact on Mental Health. Most broadly a sizeable increase in the number of students

who reported mental distress at some time in the preceding year.

With this background, this study was taken up to contribute to the scarce

literature about the influence social media has on the mental well-being of students.

Furthermore, this study focuses on determining the influence of Facebook Meta to the

mental health of Grade 12 ICT Panganiban students in Balayan Senior High School,

and it intends to give the students proper knowledge on how to avoid the Facebook

drawbacks in mental health.

Preliminary Literature Review

A systematic review of social media's impact on mental health found that

prolonged use of social media platforms like Facebook may be related to negative signs

and symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress (Karim, Qyewande, Abdalla,

Ehsanullah, & Khan, 2020). However, another umbrella review of the evidence on social

media use and adolescent mental health showed that most reviews interpreted the

associations between social media use and mental health as 'weak' or 'inconsistent,'

while a few qualified the same associations as 'substantial' and 'deleterious'.

(Valkenburg, Meier, & Beyens, 2021). According to (Jurnet, 2023) Spending too much

time on Facebook can lead to increased depressive symptoms, which are tied to a

variety of unhealthy behaviors. Academics have called for Facebook Meta to be more

transparent about its research into how its platforms affect the mental health of children

and adolescents. (Wetsman, 2021)They also suggested the establishment of an

independent scientific trust to evaluate any risks to mental health from the use of

Facebook Meta platforms and to help implement evidence-based solutions for online

risks on a worldwide scale.

themes and sub-themes. The relationship between the independent and dependent

variables will be explained through multiple regression.
