But on Friday, the WHO's director general, Dr

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said: 'You can't

fight a virus if you don't know where it is.

'Find, isolate, test and treat every case to break

the chains of Covid transmission. Every case we
find and treat limits the expansion of the disease.

'Do not just let this fire burn,' he said. 'Any

country that looks at the experience of other
countries with large epidemics and thinks "that
won't happen to us" is making a deadly mistake.'

But the UK Government is not following the

advice of the health chief, instead limiting testing
to patients in hospital with serious breathing
problems.

NHS England had announced an increase in

testing capabilities which would allow them to
carry out 10,000 tests a day.

But after the UK moved from the 'containment'

phase to 'delay', the Government accepted
millions would be infected and testing was no
longer a priority.

Meanwhile in the US, Donald Trump announced

on Friday tests would be available at drive-thru
centres in Walmart, Target and CVS parking lots.
