TINA TURNER- BIOGRAPHY: Anna Mae Bullock was born in 1939 into a poor farming family

in rural Tennessee. She began singing as a teenager in her church and, after moving to
Missouri, immersed herself in the local music scene spending much of her time at Club
Manhattan. In that Club she met Ike Turner at a performance by his rock’n’roll band, the
Kings of Rhythm, in 1956, and soon became part of this band. Her name in the band was
‘Little Ann’. Her electric stage presence quickly made her the centerpiece of the show. The
band was known for its amazing shows, but struggled to find recording success. That
changed in 1960, when the band wrote many hits. She changed her name to Tina. Ike and
Tina were married in 1962. However, they already had a son, Ronnie, prior to their
wedding in 1960. Ronnie was their only biological son together, but they shared 3 more
sons.
In 1969, they toured as the opening act for the Rolling Stones, winning themselves more
fans.

Tina left the band and divorced Ike in 1978, after years of physical abuse and infidelity,
and frequent drug and alcohol use. According to Tina, when she left Ike, she had ‘36 cents
and a gas station credit card.’ To make some money and to care for her children, she used
food stamps and even cleaned houses. She continued to sing, but didn’t find any big
success.

She released her first solo album, Private Dancer, in 1984. It

was a huge triumph, selling more than 20 million copies
worldwide and winning three Grammy Awards, including
record of the year and best female vocal performance.

By this time, Turner was a woman in her mid-40s who was

becoming even more popular for her uniquely energetic
performances and singing technique along with her signature
look—short skirts that exposed her famous legs, with
voluminous, punk-styled hair.

She also made several recordings for films, including the

James Bond title song ‘Goldeneye’, a U.K. top 10 hit, and ‘He
Lives in You’ for The Lion King 2.

After residing in Switzerland for a number of years, Turner became a Swiss citizen in 2013
and married for the second time, at the age of 73. She wrote the autobiographies ‘I, Tina’
in 1986, and ‘My Love Story’ in 2018, as well as the self-help book ‘Happiness Becomes
You: A Guide to Changing Your Life for Good’ in 2020. She was very interested in Buddhism
religion.

In her 70s, Turner experienced several major health issues. Three months after her
marriage to Bach in 2013, Turner suffered a stroke. In 2016, she was diagnosed with
intestinal cancer. The next year, she had a kidney transplant, and Bach was the donor.

In 2018, Turner revealed that she had forgiven her ex-husband for his abusive behavior
years ago. ‘He asked for one more tour with me, and I said, ‘No, absolutely not.’ Ike wasn’t
someone you could forgive and allow him back in.’ Ike was in prison for drug possession
and died in 2007 from an overdose.

At age 83, Turner died on May 24th, 2023, in her home near Zurich. A representative said
she died peacefully after a long illness.
