Overview:

Self-worth is difficult for a myriad of reasons, and as artists in our field, we tend to unconsciously compare
and compete with other artists in hopes we can prove ourselves to be worth more than what we believe. The
feeling of feeling half finished, undone, a work in progress amongst works of art, and learning to take small
steps to into being better, not for others but for yourself.

In this thesis, I hope to shed light on an issue a lot of people, not just creatives, have when it comes to their
worth. I want to visually show how some people can feel unfinished or half done, and that it’s okay to feel
like a work in progress. I want to be able to challenge myself when it comes to this film, to create a slow
progression of a character through lines and colors and different techniques I have learned. This thesis is not
only a love letter to people who feel worthless in what they do, but also a chance for me to prove that I can
make something worthwhile that a younger me would be inspired by. I want to be able to make something
that someone young and starting out can look at and think “I feel seen.”

The film will be made in the style of an animation process. The beginning of the film will show the main
character being sketchy, animated in less frames, uncolored, and voiceless, speaking only through subtext.
Through the story, as the character processes and learns, so do their style, color, and animation. By the end,
the character will be fully colored, fully animated and have a voice to speak for themselves. I want this style
to serve as a metaphor for what it feels like to progress as a person.

By the end of my year in Mapua, I hope to make something that can uplift people who feel as though they
can’t become a masterpiece, they worked so hard to create. I hope to inspire my future classmates and
students before me to find their self-worth, no matter how long it may take to get there.
