Mushroom is the reproductive structure produced by some fungi. It is somewhat

like the fruit of a plant, except that the "seeds" it produces are in fact millions of
microscopic spores that form in the gills or pores underneath the mushroom's cap.
Mushrooms grow from fungal spores that thrive in damp, dark conditions. They require a
medium that is high in decaying plant matter. They often spring directly from dead trees.
Plants, on the other hand, grow from seeds and require plenty of sun and soil, and don't do
well in overly damp environments. Accordingly, way back in ancient times mushroom
grow because of the strike of the lightning, then the scientist proves that burst of electricity
really can make mushroom grow faster. Some kinds of mushroom crops doubled their
yields when electrified.

The purpose of this research is to discover the process of mushroom growing. This
research paper provides information The about mushroom cultivation as well as it’s
process. Let’s dive into the world of discoveries perseverance and knowledge. Supporting
mushroom industry is vital in developing the rural economy, enhancing employment and
income opportunity as well as providing income to the small farmers.

The Mushroom City Company, started as a small backyard business in 2019, run by
brothers Numeriano and Edsel Quemado in the highlands of Malaybalay, Bukidnon. Their
love for mushrooms from a young age turned into a thriving business that has become a
household name in the local mushroom production industry. This passion led Numeriano to
pursue a degree in agriculture, majoring in plant pathology and mycology where he studied
different plant diseases and various fungi, including mushrooms. On the other hand, Edsel
served as an apprentice to professional mushroom growers and professors.

As the business continued to grow, it expanded its product and service

offerings to capture new market segments and increase its revenue and profit. The
company has ventured into food processing and now produces mushroom chicharon. This
product is a healthier and high-protein alternative to traditional pork chicharon, since it’s
made from oyster mushrooms. The chicharon comes in three delicious flavors: sour cream,
salted egg, and barbecue. Mushroom City Company produces various types of oyster
mushrooms (kabuteng pamaypay), including pink, yellow, and white oyster mushrooms.
They also cultivate other mushroom types, such as Ganoderma, shiitake, and Auricularia.
However, the company currently focuses on growing white oyster mushrooms as it has a
bigger market demand.

PURPOSE TOWARDS UNITY AND DIRECTION

Mushroom production can play an important role in managing farm organic

wastes when agricultural and food processing by-products are used as growing media for
edible fungi. The used substrate can then be composted and applied directly back to the
soil. There are several ways of growing mushrooms nowadays. Some are cultured while
there is also nature made, the ones who are growing when lightning strikes.

1. Cultural Identity At the time of the colonization of the Americans, they also
introduced the different mushrooms that are edible to humans. It came from the
French word “mousseron” or also known as moss. Filipinos adopted their culture
and tried to improvise in making use of mushrooms as herbal medicines. As of
today, one of the seven tribes in Bukidnon named “Higaunon” dive into the depths
of mushrooms and are still making experiments of the mystery of these certain
fungi.
2. Rituals and Ceremonies- It is believed that one large mushroom species identified
only as belonging to the “genus Termitomyces” is believed to be guarded by
supernatural beings. Thus, before collecting this mushroom, there are certain tribes
who performs dancing rituals or asks permission from the spirits and kisses the
ground. They do not cook mushrooms together with yellow or red vegetables or
with shrimps, fish, and snails as eating this cooked food could cause fatal sickness.
3. Symbolism- Each cap and stem hold ancient secrets and modern revelations. From
spiritual awakenings to ominous folklore, mushrooms have sprouted symbolic
meanings across cultures and ages. Mushroom symbolize transformation and life
cycles they hold spiritual significance for enlightenment and healing. Cultural tales
link mushrooms to magic and mystical.
4. Social Bonds- There are several organizations like TESDA who are visiting the
City of Mushroom in order to adopt and support their way of planting and growing
of mushrooms. During our visit, there were multiple leaders in different
municipalities gather to visit the City of Mushroom to know what are the process
and proper ways of handling the product.

II. Review of Related Literature

The cultivation of edible mushrooms offers one of the most feasible and economic
method for the bioconversion of agro-lignocellulosic wastes; edible mushrooms are highly
priced, not only as food but also traditional medicine. Narian et al., (2014) Edible
mushrooms are excellent source of nutritious and unique umami taste food. They are rich
in carbohydrates, proteins, fibers, vitamins, minerals, and low-fat content.

Mushroom cultivation can provide nutritious and healthy food for human
consumption, ensuring food security, and at the same time, generate livelihood and
promote environmental protection in the countryside. Polypore’s are variable group of
fungi may be morphologically, genetically, physiologically, and ecologically important.
Most of the species are not closely related to each other that results very diverse group. It is
a large group of fungi with over 30,000 species (Webster & Webster 2007). Edible
mushrooms have also been exploited for a very long time as natural alternative remedy for
various diseases. The therapeutic values and medicinal properties of edible mushrooms
have found to stem from numerous biologically active compounds or metabolites. it
sustains its growth through decomposing dead and almost dying plant materials. Moreover,
bracket fungi are distributed throughout the different area and can occur upon a variety of
host species (Fogel & Rogers 2006). For this reason, a large number of mushrooms are
inedible to humans.

Conclusion

Mushrooms are an important and versatile food source that can be used in many
dishes or simply enjoyed on their own. It is also a good source of income as well as
mushroom cultivation is perhaps the most important microbial technology, after yeast
fermentation. In modern day mushrooms are used as medicines and herbals that can found
in coffee such as Jimm’s coffee. There are different ways of cooking a mushroom an
example for this is using it as a tempura mushroom, the typical Filipino dish “Adobo”, it
can also be used as an alternative for meat. It can also be used in making mushroom soup
and etc. There are several factors that people might consider to identify mushrooms that are
edible and those who aren’t. The study of mushroom cultivation studies includes the need
for careful management of the cultivation process, the importance of keeping mushroom
species in their natural environment, and the potential benefits from large-scale production.

Problems in Handling Indigenous Cultural Communities’ Learners

The lack of knowledge when it comes to preserving mushroom diversity in the Philippines
faces several challenges. One challenge is the loss of habitat and climate change, which
threaten fungi and highlight the need for fungal conservation for sustainable agriculture
and a healthy planet. Another challenge is the reliance on imported mushrooms, indicating
a need to develop the local mushroom industry to reduce dependence on other countries.
Additionally, there is a need to document and preserve the rich traditional knowledge on
mushrooms held by Filipino indigenous communities. Furthermore, the cultivation and
application of wild useful mushrooms require attention and research to maximize their
value and profitability. Overall, addressing these challenges will be crucial for the
preservation and utilization of mushrooms in the Philippines.

The methodology

When it comes to creative work, our imaginations are put front and center as we go
on a colorful voyage of self-expression. Our approach values curiosity and creates a
supportive atmosphere for the growth of ideas. We start by exposing ourselves to a wide
range of inspiration, including technology, nature, and literary and artistic works. We find
special insights through introspection and close observation, which inspire our creative
process. Using the instruments of experimentation and iteration, we welcome the
unexpected and push limits fearlessly.

We have developed our creative work by applying our research findings and real-
world experience. Perseverance was one of the many things that helped us come up with
our creative work. We wouldn't get close to the finish line without it. The second is
patience; by doing our homework and showing each other patience, we completed the
assigned assignment. Finally, curiosity drove us to continue learning more while
completing the task at hand.
