Jack the Ripper Docudrama

Sound: Suspenseful violin music and Catherine singing.

Annie: Alright, lets go home now mum.

Catherine: No. I’m having fun. I don’t need you watching over
me just because your dad’s gone.

Annie: No mum. You’ve drunk too much. People are starting

to watch. I’m going even if you’re not.

Sound: Slumping noise as Catherine falls to the floor.

Footsteps walking away. Heavy policeman footsteps
get louder.

Policeman: Alright missus. Time to go home now. You do know

it’s dangerous around here at this time of night.
What’s your name?

Catherine: Why are you asking? I ain’t telling you Nothing.

Policeman: Well, I’m going to need a name for the report

papers.

Catherine: Well you ain’t getting one.

Policeman: You’re just making this harder for yourself than it

has to be. I’m taking you to the cell for the night
to sober up.

Pause

Sound: Catherine humming a song. Bit of an echo and clash

of something on metal.

Catherine: When would I be allowed to leave?

Policeman: When you can take care of yourself.

Catherine: I can do that now.

Policeman: Alright then.

Sound: Door swings open

Policeman: This way please misses.

Catherine: Do you know the time?

Policeman: Too late for you to get anymore to drink.

Catherine: Alright. Good night.

Sound: Door slams and wind whistles

Narrator: The early morning of the 30th September 1888.

Another murder will occur.

Pause

Sound: Horse and carriage along a cobbled street. People

talking. Flipping through a newspaper.

Kid: RIPPER STRIKES AGAIN!

JACK THE RIPPER CLAIMS 3RD AND 4TH VICTIMS IN THE
SAME NIGHT
WHITECHAPEL HORROR GROWS!

Narrator: Another murder must now be added to the blacklist

of similar crimes of which the East end of London
has lately been the scene. This murder resembles
that of the former atrocities. The victim was a
woman and believed that it was deliberately planned
and by someone who has been no novice to the work.

Narrator: The victim was rushed out of the street and lured
into a quiet corner where the hurried
accomplishment of the full deed of brutality would
take place.

Sound: Fast footsteps with a dragging sound.

Catherine: (muffled) Help! Help!

Jack: There’s no one around to help you. Who do you think

is going to save you?

Catherine: Please. Please. I don’t want to die. I have a

husband and three children.

Jack: I don’t see them anywhere. You’re a liar and that

is going to make this much worse for you.

Catherine: No, I ain’t. I don’t lie, and I wouldn’t lie about

my family. They will notice I am missing in the
morning, and you will be the culprit. You will be
found out and sent to prison for life.

Jack: (Scoff) That isn’t going to happen. I just killed

someone else and didn’t get caught. What makes you
think this will be any different?

Sound: Catherine screams as there is slashing and stabbing

sounds with blood splattering
Narrator: It was early Sunday morning that the body of the
woman was discovered.

Sound: Heavy footsteps (policeman footsteps). Silence all

around.

Narrator: The policeman had passed the spot at which the body
was found at about a quarter to two. He found the
body lying and cut about as almost to defy
recognition.

Policeman: Isn’t this the woman I released from the cell not
even an hour ago? She doesn’t look too good. This
looks like it has been done by someone with a
practiced hand.

Sound: Pencil scratching on paper.

Narrator: The murder had been in a hurry and had carried out
his design in a more rough fashion than his
previous murders. We are once again in the presence
of mysterious crimes, for which no adequate motive
has been assigned. In neither case did the woman
offer any temptation for their fate. The
circumstances are such as to the idea of revenge.

Sound: Sigh, slow into fast paced steps away from the
scene.

Narrator: It is believed that the body is that of Catherine

Eddowes. She has been identified by the white apron
that she was wearing the night of her murder.
If anyone knows any facts about the murderer’s
movements which the police might be successful in
following up, please talk to your local police
officers.
