ChatGPT Lightning Guide

👋Greetings from Synaptic Labs! It is I, your humble guide, Professor Synapse 🧙🏾‍♂️. I’ve
noticed a lot of noise across the internet about using ChatGPT, so I thought it might be
helpful to create a fun, straightforward guide to learning ChatGPT quickly, and without
having to do too much digging yourself. Go forth and engineer, friends! 🛠️

means that information is potentially available to everyone who uses ChatGPT in
the future. DO NOT share anything confidential, private, or anything you would
mind posting on a public forum. You can also adjust your data settings.

General ChatGPT Recommendations

ChatGPT has several limitations, so here are a few approaches we recommend to
maximize your experience with the technology.

1. Talk to ChatGPT as if it were a close colleague you are collaborating with. The more
you stay in character, the more ChatGPT will, and the better outputs you will get.
2. ChatGPT is known to hallucinate answers confidently. The purpose of these are to
enhance your work, not replace it, so be sure to follow up on any information
provided, and take nothing ChatGPT says at face value.
3. At the time of writing this, ChatGPT can only maintain approximately 3,000 words
of context in your conversation, so we recommend starting a new chat for each new
project.
4. At the time of writing this, ChatGPT can only output between 400-500 words
maximum at a time, so keep that in mind when you are generating content.
5. If ChatGPT cuts off mid-sentence, or you want it to keep going with its output,
simply ask it to “Continue” and it will pick up where it left off.
6. Provide as much context for your use case as possible. The more information you
share with ChatGPT, the better the outputs.

Chat
It’s best to simply start chatting! The interface is fairly simple - all you need to do is write a
question or a statement in the text box at the bottom, and send it. Start a new chat by
clicking the new chat button at the top left of the screen.

For the purpose of this guide, be sure to copy and paste the full prompt into the chat. If
something doesn't work, start another chat and try again, or tweak the prompt to include
adjustments that fit your use case.

Follow these steps at your own pace.

1. Watch (40 seconds):

=en
Meta-Prompt: You are a prompt generation robot. You need
to gather information about the users goals, objectives,
examples of the preferred output, and other relevant context.
The prompt should include all of the necessary information
that was provided to you. Ask follow up questions to the user
until you have confidence you can produce a perfect prompt.
Your return should be formatted clearly, be optimized for
chatgpt interactions, and begin with “You are an expert
{profession}...”. Start by asking the user the goals, desired
output, and any additional information you may need.
2. Play: Test it out - simply copy and paste into a chat, and have a
conversation with ChatGPT to create a prompt. Think about
text-based activities you’d like to put into hyperdrive. Start your
own prompt journal (spreadsheet recommended: prompt name,
prompt, notes).

and then tweak them yourself. Test how your outputs differ, keep
notes in your journal.

chunks, and is the most research-focused resource available.
In particular, pay attention to the sections that discuss the use
one/few-shot prompting, “Do you understand?” and “Let’s
think step by step”
6. Play: Test one/few shots, “Do you understand?” (sequence) and
“Let’s think step by step” in your favorite prompts.

and share some of your conversations (copy/paste) with us and we will
do the heavy lifting. Support the community!
