DOT MAP

❖Quantitative or quantitative location of geographical objects is shown with the help

of dots, then it is called dot map
❖A distribution map formed with the help of dots is called a dot map

▪ With the help of this symbol, the location of a specific object such as village, mauza,
town, city, temple, mosque, port, station etc. is shown. Similarly to prepare such
map of location of rural population, agricultural land, agricultural production etc

Types of Dot Map

1.Qualitative Dot map:A map prepared with the help of points to show the exact location of geographical features is
called qualitative map.
Example: Location of capital cities of India

2.Quantitative dot map:A map prepared to show the distribution of an object with the help of points of equal volume
is called numerical map.
Example: Rural Population Distribution Of India

1.Arbitary method:

2.Fixed Number method:In this method, the number of points scaled to

100 is selected for the maximum value of the data. For example, the
maximum rural population in an administrative area is 60000. Then the
value of a dot will be (60000/100)=600 rural population. That is, 1 dot =
600 rural population
