Activity : Conditional Probability

Class XII
Objective:To understand the computation of conditional probability of a given event A, when event
B has already occurred, through an example of throwing a pair of dice.
Method:
Step1. Complete the grid to represent the sample space of tosses of a pair of dice.
Step2. Let A be the event “a number 4 appears on both the dice” , B be the event "4 has
appeared on at least one of the dice”.
a. Fill the cells in the grid representing the event B with a colour of your choice.
b. Of these coloured cells, change colour of the cell(s) which is(are) favourable to A
c. In case there is an overlapping of colours, shade it in a chequered manner.

Step3. Refer to the above grid to answer the following:

Q1 If A is the event “a number 4 appears on both the dice” and B is the event "4 has
appeared on at least one of the dice”, then which of the following is correct?
Q2 Outcomes favourable to A∩B are

Q3 n(A ∩ B) = _______

Q4 P(A ∩ B) =_________

Q5 P ( A | B ) =
