● Scenario #3: Emmanuel and Robert are on the same soccer team

and have been friends since elementary school. Today in the

cafeteria, someone told Emmanuel that Robert had been talking
about him behind his back. Allegedly, Robert said that Emmanuel
was the worst player on the soccer team and that the team would
win more games if it weren’t for him. Emmanuel is furious that
Robert would say this about him.

POSITIVE STRATEGIE RESOLUTION

E: Robert, I heard something today that really bothered me.

R: What happened, Emmanuel?

E: Someone told me you have been saying I'm the worst player on the
soccer team and that the team would win more without me.

R: What? I have never said that about you, Emmanuel, you’re my best
friend.

E: I thought that too, but I wanted to hear it from you.

R: I don't know who said that to you but it's not true. You're a great
player of our team, and I like you very much.

E: I was worried because I thought you really said that.

R: I think there should be more communication between us so that this

kind of thing doesn't happen.

E: I think so, thanks for cleaning, I will tell you if something concerns
me and don’t forget to do the same thing and tell me too.

R: Of course.
NEGATIVE STRATEGIE RESOLUTION

E: Robert, we need to talk, I heard something today that really

bothered me.

R: What happened, Emmanuel?

E: Someone told me you have been saying I'm the worst player on our
team, and that we would win more games without me.

R: What? I would never say something like that. We have been friends
for years.

E: Well, someone said it, and I want to know if it's real and you said it.

R: It didn't, Emmanuel. I have no reason to say that.

E: So, you are telling me it's a lie?

R: Yes! I don't know who spread those rumors, but it's not true.

E: Well, someone said it, and I don't like people talking bad about me.

R: I get that, but I didn’t say that. Maybe there's some

misunderstanding.

E: A misunderstanding? I don't think so, Robert.

R: Please Emmanuel believe me, I am telling the truth.

E: I don't want to hear more, from now we are not friends.
