Boundary lines have also been used to mark the end of conflicts, such as the Armistice Line between Israel and its neighbors after the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. 3. International borders are sometimes based on natural geographical features but can also be arbitrary, as was the case with the Durand Line between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
