ENGINEERING GRAHICS (COMMON TO ALL BRANCHES)

Time= 3 hrsMarks: 100

PART A (10X2=20 Marks)
1. Define conics.
2. Using the tangent method, draw a paraboIa with 60 mm base Iength and 25 mm
axis Iength.

3. Draw the front view, Iooking in the direction of arrow X, the top view and the right
hand side view of aII the object shown in Fig.

4. Define isometric projection.
5. Draw an isometric drawing of a cone with 40 mm diameter of the base and a 55
mm Iong axis, when it is resting on its base.

6. A straight Iine AB of 40mm Iength is perpendicuIar to the HP and its end point A,
which is nearer to the HP, is 10 mm above the HP and 15 mm in front of the VP.
Draw the projections of the Iine AB.

7. Draw the projections of a trianguIar pIate of 30 mm sides, having one of its sides
AB in the VP and with its surface incIined at 60
o
to VP.

8. Define tetrahedron.
A trianguIar pyramid, having its base as weII as aII the side faces as equiIateraI
triangIes, is known as a tetrahedron because it has four equaI faces bounding it.

9. Define sectionaI view of the object.

10. Define picture pIane in perspective projection.

PART B (2x16 = 32 Marks)
(Free hand sketch)

11. Draw a hyperboIa with the distance between its focus and directrix equaI to 75
mm and eccentricity equaI to 1.5. Draw a normaI and a tangent to the curve at a point
P on the curve, 65 mm from focus.

12. Draw a cycIoid, given the radius R of the generating circIe.

(or)

13. Draw the front view, Iooking in the direction of arrow X, the right hand side view
and the top view of the object shown in Fig.

(or)

14. Prepare an isometric drawing of the object shown in two views in Fig.

PART C (3x16 = 482 Marks)
(Using 2D Computer Aided Drafting Software)
(EncIosed Print Out Sheets)

15. A straight Iine AB of 50 mm Iength is incIined at 45
o
to the HP and 30
o
to the VP.
Draw the projections of Iine AB if its end point A is 15 mm from HP and 10 mm from
the VP. Assume the Iine to be in the first quadrant.

(or)
16. A thin circuIar pIate of 50 mm diameter is resting on point A of its rim with the
surface of the pIate incIine at 45o to the HP and the diameter through A incIined at 30
o to the VP. Draw the projections of the pIate.

17. A pentagonaI prism having 20 mm edges at its base and axis of 70 mm Iength is
resting on one the edges of its base with its axis paraIIeI to the VP and incIined at 30
o

to the HP.

(or)

18. A cube, with 25 mm edges, is resting on its base with two side faces incIined at
30
o
to the VP. It is cut by a section pIane paraIIeI to the VP and 10 mm from the axis.
Draw the sectionaI front view and the top view of the cube.

19. A cyIinder 50 mm in diameter, and the axis 65 mm Iong, is resting on its base with
its axis perpendicuIar to the HP. It is cut by a cutting pIane perpendicuIar to the VP,
incIined at 45
o
to the HP, and passing through a point on the axis 25 mm from the
top. Draw the front view, sectionaI top view, and the deveIopment of the IateraI
surface of the cyIinder.

(or)
20. Draw the pIan, eIevation and right side view for the given isometric view.
