you can call me (…). As you can see on the screen, today we are going presentation about “The
2nd Metropolitan City in Indonesia, Surabaya”.

Surabaya is known as the city of heroes, because courage of arek-arek Suroboyo in the heroic
struggle of 10th November 1945. As monumental evidence enshrined with the Tugu Pahlawan
icon. This city of heroes is known for its abundance of diversity. For example, their historical
monuments, delicious culinary, attractive tourist destination, unique culture, and many other
things.
A. Historical Monuments
Surabaya has many historical monuments that record the struggle of arek-arek
Suroboyo to achieve Indonesian independence. Let's take a look at three famous historical
monuments in Surabaya:
1. Heroes Monument
The Heroes Monument was founded in November 10, 1951 and inaugurated on November 10,
1952 by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Soekarno, with the aim of remembering
the history of the struggle of the Indonesian heroes for independence in the battle of 10
November 1945 in Surabaya
2. Red Bridge
The Red Bridge was built in the era of Governor General Daendels and was inaugurated on
November 11, 1743. The construction of the Red Bridge was carried out based on an agreement
between Pakubuwono II of Mataram and the VOC.
3. Siola Building
In 1960, five businessmen, Soemitro, Ing Wibisono, Ong, Liem and Aang contracted the
building from the Surabaya City Government. They repaired and renovated the building and then
opened a wholesale center which was named after the abbreviation of their five names, SIOLA,
and is known today.
Surabaya's special food is no less interesting to try while on vacation. The City of
Heroes is quite well known for its food such as cingur rujak, pecel, lontong balap which you can
try.
1. Rujak Cingur
Rujak cingur is a traditional food that is easy to find in East Java, especially in Surabaya. In
Javanese, the word cingur means "mouth". Rujak cingur usually consists of sliced fruit such as
cucumber, collards, yam, young mango, pineapple, kedondong, then added rice cake, tofu,
tempe, bendoyo, cingur, and vegetables.
2. Pecel Semanggi
Pecel Semanggi is a typical Surabaya food, made from steamed clover leaves and then enjoyed
with chili sauce or clover seasoning. The spices used are made from palm sugar, shrimp paste,
and chilies. Enjoying a cloverleaf meal is usually accompanied by bean sprouts, kale, and uli
crackers made from rice.
3. Lontong Balap
Lontong balap is a typical Indonesian food which is the hallmark of the city of Surabaya. This
food consists of rice cake, bean sprouts, fried tofu, lentho, fried onions, soy sauce and chili
sauce. Lontong Balap consists of sliced lontong and on top of this lontong slices of tofu and
some lentho are squeezed.
C. Tourist Destination
There are more than 570 parks in Surabaya. The existence of hundreds of parks and the
planting of plants along roads in Surabaya has had a big impact on the city. The temperature in
the city of Surabaya has decreased by around 2 percent, which was initially in the range of 30-31
degrees Celsius to 28-29 degrees Celsius.
1. Expression Park
As the name implies, Expression Park was created to "express" the works of art by Surabaya
artists.
D. Culture of Surabaya
Surabaya City is not only famous as the City of Heroes, Surabaya also has many
distinctive cultures. These cultures are still preserved and can be found in a number of art
performances.
1. Ludruk
Talking about Surabaya art, it's incomplete if you don't discuss ludruk. Even though it's not an
original Surabaya art, ludruk can't be separated from Surabaya. Ludruk is a stage art which
contains jokes typical of Surabaya. Ludruk is delivered in everyday language or Suroboyoan
language.
