CCAUTION: Battery can exelode or leak if heated, dsassembled, shorted, recharged, exposed to
fire or high temperature or inserted incorrectly. Keep in original package until ready to use. Do
not cany batteries loose ir your packet or purse. Keep batteries away from children. If
swallowed, consul a physkian at once. For information on treatment, call the NATIONAL
BUTTON BATTERY INGESTION HOTLINE, collect day or night, at (202) 625-3333, Under certain
‘misuse conditions and by abusively opcning the battery, exposed Iithium can reac with water
‘or moisture inthe air causng potential thermal bums oF fre.

‘Skin Contact: Contact wih battery contents may cause iitation.
Inhalation: Inhalation of vapors or fumes released due to heat ora large number of leaking
batteries may cause respiratory and eye iitaton.
Ingestion: Swallowing isnot anticipated for larger batteries due to battery size. Smaller
batteries may be svalowed. If battery Is swallowea, seek immeciate medical vee, wateres
lodged inthe esophagus shoud be removed immediately since leakage, caustic burns and
perforation can occur as soon as two hours after ingestion. Iation to the interalfexteral
‘mouth areas may oocur folowing exposure toa leaking battery. Do not give Ipecac.

Eye Contact: If battery is leaking and material contacts the eye, flush thoroughly with
‘copious amounts of running water for 30 minutes. Seek immediate medical attention.
‘Skin Contact: If battery is leaking and material contact the sin, remove any contaminated
clothing and fish exposed skin with copious amounts of running water for at least 15 minutes.
If iritaton, injury o pain persists, seek medical attention
Inhaled: If battery is lating, contents may be iitating to respiratory passages. Move to
fresh ar. IF iritation persis, seek mecical attention.
‘Swallowedt If battery is swallowed seek immediate medical advice. Batteries lodged in the
esophagus should be removed immediately since leakage, caustic burns and perforation can
‘occur as soon as two hours after ingestion. If mouth area tation or burning has occurred,
rinse the mouth and surrounding area with tepid water for at least 15 minutes. Do not give
Ipecac.
[Note to Physician: Published reports recommend removal from the esophagus fs done
endoscopically (under cect visualization), Batteries beyond the esophagus need not be
retrieved uniess there are signs of injury tothe GI tractor a large dlameter battery falls to pass
the pylorus. If asymptomali, follow-up xrays are necessary only to confirm the passage of
larger batteries. Confirmation by sto! inspection is preferable under most circumstances. For

“SECTION 51 FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
Fire and Explosion Hazards: Batteries may burst and release hazardous decomposition
products when exposed toa fie situation.
Extinguishing Media: Use dry chemical, alcohol foam, water or carbon dioxide as
appropriate for the surrounding fre. For incpient fires, carbon dioxide extinguishers are
more effective than water,
Special Fire Fighting Procedures: Firefighters should wear postive pressure self
Contained breathing apparatus and full protective dothing. Fight fe from a distance or
protected area. Cool fre exposed batteries to prevent rupture. Use caution when handing
fre-exposed containers (beteries may explode in heat offre).
Hazardous Combustion Products: Thermal degradation may produce hazardous fumes of
lithium and manganese; hydrofluoric acid oxides of carbon and sulfur and other toxic by-
products.
‘SECTION 6: ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
tify safety personne! of lrge spl. Initating vapors and flammable may be released from
leaking or ruptured batteries. Eliminate all ignition sources. Evacuate the area and allow the
\vapors to dssipate. Clean-up personnel should wear appropriate protective Cothing to avold
‘eye and skin contact and irhalation of vapors or fumes. Increase ventlation. Carefully collect
batteries and place in an appropriate container for disposal. Remave spilled quid with
absorbent and contain for disposal.
SECTION 7: HANDLING AND STORAGE
‘Avoid mechanical or electrical abuse. DO NOT short circuit or install ncorectiy. Batteries may
‘explode pyrolze or vent if disassembled, crushed, recharged or exposed to high temperatures,
Ital batteries in acoordance with equipment Instructions. Replace all batteries in equipment at
the same time. Do not carr batteries loose in a pocket or bag
Storage: Store batteries ia dry place at normal room temperature,
