Ada Lovelace

During Ada’s childhood, she was fatherless due to her parents’ unremarkable
relationship. Her upbringing was different from the others, learning
mathematics and science per her mother’s insistence. She showed incredible
talent in these subjects from an early age.

She met Charles Babbage at 17 years of age, befriending him. He was her
mentor, and she studied advanced mathematics with the University of London
through him. Lovelace got to observe Charles’ difference engine before
finishing, and was captivated.

Regarding Charles’ plans for the analytical engine, made to handle more
complex calculations, Ada translated an article on it written by swiss engineer
Luigi Federico Menabrea and added her own notes onto her english translation.
It was 3x longer than the original article written. Her work was published in 1843,
initialed A.A.L, Augusta Ada Lovelace.
On the subject of personal life, Ada Lovelace took the title of Countess of
Lovelace in 1835 after marrying William King. They had a mutual love for horses
and birthdd 3 children together. William was mostly supportive of his wife’s
mathematical ventures. They also socialized with many of the greatest minds of
that era, such as Michael Faraday, and Charles Dickens.

All in all,, her contribution to the analytical engine and her incredible talent and
intrigue to mathematics and science is highly regarded and rare even in today’s
era. She has made her mark in history and will go down as a remarkable
mathematician.
