Introduction:

Nestlé’s CEO sends an email to all the employees of the organization at a time of distress and
chaos caused due to the COVID-19 outbreak. An overview of the letter gives us the idea that he
has:
1) Acknowledged the fact that the times are tough for the employees and their families.
2) Thanked all the employees for their valuable contribution despite the pandemic.
3) Very subtly has also mentioned the fact that, being a food and beverage company
everyone at Nestlé will still have to work in these desperate times.

Evaluation:

● Organic / Analytic Organizer:

Clearly, the email he has drafted is very organic in nature. He makes it a point to remind
everyone of the legacy of Nestlé which is over 154 years old. He acknowledges their
contribution time and again so as to make it clear that he is very grateful for their
contributions. He in fact makes it a point to reiterate and emphasize on the safety and
precautions that needed to be taken during the pandemic.

● Diagnostic/ Evaluation/ Decision argument:

Diagnosis: The email does mention very critically that there has been an economic
standstill due to the pandemic and what precautions have to be taken to tackle it.

Evaluation: Going forward he thanks the employees, the frontline workers and advises
everyone on making contributions, building inventories and extending a helping hand
wherever possible. He does emphasize that protecting oneself and family should be the
utmost priority for everyone in the organization.

Decision : As the email proceeds he makes it clear that despite the harsh times Nestlé
will carry on with their day to day operations at the moment when its customer needs
them the most.

● Informative / Persuasive:

The email is more informative with a little hint of persuasion. The entire email
predominantly revolves around the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects. How one should
survive and proceed from that point on, the precautions and measures that could help
the company and the community were mentioned as well. Meanwhile, he also made his
point that Nestlé will continue with its operations and the fact that the CEO is both
grateful for the contributions made by the employees and he hopes to see the same
output from each one of them in the future as well.
● Word choice and sentence structure:

The choice of words used and the structure of sentences in the email is not very concise.
The email does a very good job of showcasing Nestlé's corporate social responsibilities
and sends a message that Nestlé does care about its employees. The email is very well
drafted from the perspective of informing its major stakeholders to the board of directors
as well as all the employees of the organization. The choice of words is a little peculiar to
that of conventional writing and the usage of very long sentences suggests that he
wanted to make sure that his concern for his employees his clearly portrayed in this
email.
