HARDWARE PROBLEMS

1. Unresponsive keys on keyboard

- The most common cause for keyboard is an accumulation of dust or rust over the years, or
from a liquid spill that many users are not aware of.
- Another common cause for this is seen in keyboards that have been left unused for long
periods of time. This could lead to a defective keyboard as well.

2. Video Card faults (image distortions)

- Video cards, otherwise known as a graphics card, generate the image feed that is used for
your display.

Image Distortions can be caused by either a screen related issue or a video card fault

- There are a few distinct ways to tell these apart. Distortion caused by video card faults look
more like vertical columns (sometimes horizontal). The keyboard and mouse may also be
unresponsive under a video card fault. Connecting to an external display will not work as
well.
3. Laptop speaker Making Static Noises
- Abnormal sounds made by your speaker is a sign that it is failing. Static noises or distorted
noises while playing audio is an example of this failure. This may be caused by water damage
or rust formation. Try connecting to external speakers or headphones to verify this failure.
- It is most likely that speakers are damaged by rust and liquid only. However, speaker
problems are too uncommon for us technicians to understand them better. As
far as we know, it usually comes after a reported liquid spill, or from finding traces of liquid
residue inside the computer. Still, it’s difficult to see what’s wrong inside the speakers.
4. Fan Noises
- Moving parts like fans almost never operate silently, you’ll always hear a very low whir of the
rotors while your computer is on. But when it starts to make abnormal clunking and rattling
noises, you’ll know that the fan is wearing down.
- Overheating could lead to more serious damage that can cost you a lot more than replacing
the fan. So, once you find that your fan isn’t working well enough to keep things under
control, it could be worth stopping the problem from there. This can help you save you the
money that further problems caused by overheating could cost you. Again, this fan noise is
caused by an accumulation of rust and dust inside. This rust causes its motor to wear out.
5. USB Port not detecting device
- One of the most common problems on older computers and even some desktops and
laptops right now are their USB ports not detecting their respective devices.

6. Temperature Failures
- Many electronics are designed to endure temperatures up to 176 Fahrenheit. With that
being the preferred temperatures for your computer to be at. Anything below 140 degrees
Fahrenheit is perfect, and anything above 178 degrees Fahrenheit is too high of a
temperature for any device to withstand and could cause serious damage to a computer.
7. Hard Drive failures
- Physical contact or damage, heat, humidity, dust, power surges, or even time can cause hard
drive failure. Dust, water, or dropping are some reasons HDDs fail, shortening their lifespan
8. Motherboard failures
- A motherboard failure has multiple causes like for example power surge or outage,
overheating or dust buildup, physical damage or corrosion, faulty or incompatible
components or drivers, and BIOS or firmware errors or updates.
9. Power Supply failures
- Moisture will corrode the electronics and eventually lead to failures. Other failure modes
from the user environment include surges and transients that are well above the ratings and
many IEC standards, which usually damage the semiconductor components in the front end
of the power supply.
10. Headphones not working
- Headphones are a device that go through the most list of problems, whether it’s not playing
audio, one side not working, it’s USB not getting detected or anything else, they are
definitely the most faulty device and not all of them are easily fixed.
