The impact of modernization on traditional societies:


a comparative analysis of economic, social and
cultural changes.
The industrial revolution of the 19th century allowed Western societies to modernize, but
other countries cannot be integrated into this “revolution” in the strict sense of the term. The
term “industrial revolution” is attributed to Britain where the transformation process was
brutal. However, the first phases of industrialization in some countries such as the United
States, Russia and Japan took a long time. The industrial revolution had a significant impact
on traditional societies, leading to economicswdfvde, social and cultural changes [1].
Modernization theorists offer solutions to underdevelopment. They argue that countries in the
North can support the South in its transition to appropriate attitudes and institutions.
Technical assistance from the North can help countries in the South reform their political and
economic institutions, and these reforms are commonly called "modernization" when they
pose the problem of development in terms of tradition and modernity. Modernization theory
explains development in cultural terms. . Societies that favor tradition over innovation and
regionalism over national conciliation are considered underdeveloped, according to Walt
Whitman Rostow. Collusion between media and politics, and between law and economics,
are signs of underdeveloped societies according to Talcott Parsons. made appropriate
decisions collectively and individually to become economically wealthy, politically stable
and technologically advanced. On the other hand, the infrastructure, administration, economy
and politics of the countries of the South suffer from cultural delay.
