QUESTION

TEENAGERS HAVE TOO MUCH FREEDOM IN TODAY’S

COMPLEX WORLD.

WRITE AN INTRODUCTION SHARING YOUR STANCE ON

THE STATEMENT ABOVE.

Many teenagers’ mind have become more matured because of the world we live in and
because they are growing up, they tend to have the feeling of independency. This has been one of
a major social issue that we now have today but do you think teenagers’ have too much freedom
in the complex world we live in? According to a survey done by Netmums, a British parenting
advice website, parents responded to the survey said that they believe that modern childhood
ended at 12 years old. The website’s co-founder, Siobrian Freegard, blamed the “toxic
combination of marketing, media and peer pressure”. Another survey which was done by David
Elkind, a child study professor at Tufts University said ‘Our society is compressing childhood
more and more where children are not children for very long. Is their freedom limited or are they
overdoing it? For most teenagers in the world, they tend to not have enough disciplinary in their
lives so their freedom isn’t always limited and even if they are overdoing, is it because of peer
pressure? Or is it because they want to look cool? Is because they want others to perceive them
as outgoing or fun? I believe that teenagers have too much freedom because many kids out there
are either doing negative things such as vaping or cursing explicit in songs and such more.
Whereas teenagers are growing up but they are rushing their age too fast, there are many reasons
why adults should limit their son/daughter free time because something might happen to them
where they would get hurt and teenagers need rules and boundaries in order to keep them
grounded. Teenagers who have too much freedom could lose their perspective of what is
important in life and create this false understanding of what life will be like in the future.
