This chapter provides an overview of relevant literature and studies related on the development
of Fish port. This first part discusses the development of municipal fishing port. The second part
discusses the elements of a municipal fish port. The third part focuses on the problems arising in

Introduction
A fish port is a facility that serves as the center of fishing operations and provides space for
fishermen to operate. One of the things that suggest how well performing the local fishermen and
fishing activities on certain place were the presence of a fish port (Multazam,2000). Ports in the
Philippines are classified as: Fishing ports which is either municipal or regional and are primarily
served
as the fishing industry and function as the main collection and distribution center of fish; Feeder
port
which are the linkages between nearby small islands and urban areas that typically serve small
passenger and fishing boats; and Commercial port which are either for private used or owned and
operated by the government that cater vessel with a weight of more than 30 tons (Israel, 2000)
Maybe we all want our fishing port to have a beautiful and innovative design and new
technology. We know that the Philippines has beautiful seas and marine resources. With the new
design and equipment, the Filipinos will have more importance to strengthen the source of fish
An casual waterfront observer observer needs to aware of the intricate but unseen linkages
that tie the vessel to the modern urban harbor as securely as the lines that tie its hull to the
pier. These linkages are streams of goods and services; services that flow between shore-
based establishments and vessels. This chapter considers them as packages of marine
services: repair and maintenance services, equipment and supplies, consumable provisions;
and business, financial, and information services. A major metropolitan harbor servicing a
large and diverse fleet of vessels provide a full competitive range of marine services,
whereas a rural port harboring a limited number of vessels may supply only the most
rudimentary services. Oceangoing cargo vessels, tugboats, recreational smallcraft, and other
floating equipment swell the market demand for similar marine services in a large urban
port and the marine service businesses, which developed in response to that market demand,
also serve the fishing fleets.
The construction of fishing port ate planned in expectation of future developments in the fishing
industry. Although fishing ports are highly needed for countries economic development in the
field of
fishing industries, issues and concerns on them were currently arising. One of these issues were
underutilization of existing ports in which are assessed by comparing the usage projection when
it was
planned and its actual usage on its operation (Israel, et.al., 2000). A probable reason for this

becoming the breeding areas of diseases which will affect the marine ecosystem. This issues
