QUIZ 1 – VECTOR ANALYSIS

Course: Electromagnetics
March 22nd, 2021
Lecturer: Iwan Cony Setiadi, DoEP, INDSYS, ITS.

Course Learning Outcome (CLO):

CLO-1 Students understand the application of Vector Differential and Integral to Electromagnetic Theory.

Problems:

1. Find the acute angle between the two vectors A = 2𝑥̂ + 𝑦̂ + 3𝑧̂ and
B = 𝑥̂ − 3𝑦̂ + 2𝑧̂ by using the definition of (a) the dot product; (b) the cross product.

2. Convert the coordinates of the following points:

a. P1 (-2, 0, -2), from Cartesian to Cylindrical and Spherical coordinates
b. P2 (4, , 1), from Cylindrical to Cartesian coordinates.
c. P3 (5, 0, ), Spherical to Cylindrical coordinates.

3. For the scalar function V = x2y + 2xy - z2, determine its directional derivative along the
direction of vector U = 𝑥̂ − 𝑦̂𝑧, and then evaluate it at (1, 1, 0).
